New Twinkie Maker Shuns Union Labor
Wall St. Journal ^ | April 24, 2013 | RACHEL FEINTZEIG

The company that bought the Twinkie, HoHo and Ding Dong brands out of bankruptcy is gearing up to reopen plants and hire workers, but it won't be using union labor.

Hostess Brands new incarnation of the baking company that liquidated in Chapter 11—is reopening four bakeries in the next eight to 10 weeks, aiming to get Twinkie-deprived consumers the classic snack cake starting in July.

Chief Executive C. Dean Metropoulos said the company will pump $60 million in capital investments into the plants between now and September and aims to hire at least 1,500 workers. But they won't be represented by unions, including the one whose nationwide strike sparked the 86-year-old company's decision to shut down in November.

"We do not expect to be involved in the union going forward," Mr. Metropoulos said in an interview Wednesday.

Hostess Brands Inc., the company that filed for bankruptcy protection in January 2012 and eventually sold off its brands and plants to several buyers, was once powered by 19,000 workers, 15,000 of whom were represented by unions. The company's largest union, the Teamsters, had agreed to a new labor contract following a contentious bankruptcy trial. But the second-largest union, the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers & Grain Millers International Union, launched a work stoppage after the company imposed new labor terms on the union's members. Hostess said the strike crippled its operations, forcing it to shut down.

And the Union members will join Obama’s unemployment army.

And the new employees will make so little they will qualify for food stamps, free healthcare (paid by me) and all kinds of subsidies, while the twinkie owners join the ranks of the Wal-Mart cartel...

I love it when a plan comes together...And I'll be anticipating a huge drop in twinkie prices/S...

They have become billionaires as a result of their hard work.

That's the system I support...Let's make a few more people outrageously filthy rich by screwing blue collar Americans...It just sounds so, patriotic...

Unions lost their usefullness about 60-70 years ago, when they were truly needed.

At that point the concept of fair became greed.

You mean blue collar unions of course...What about the car dealer unions; the Landlord unions; the bank unions, etc., ect...We really need those tho, don't we...

WHAT! What’s the “sell by” date? Of course they probably have enough preservatives in them anyway that I won’t need to be embalmed in any case. LOL! Just wonderin’ if they are knock offs like fake rolex’s? Only more valuable.

I would guess that on the first day of hiring Union goons will be standing at the line and registering former (union) employees as they are hired.

Next, within weeks of operating, a strike will begin.

After that, it all goes to crap as all of the former union employees bring the same union pestilence with them to the workplace.

Unionists and Democrats are exactly the same.....Marxist, Liberal, Socialist, Communist. The mindset of all is anchored in their heritage and cannot be changed.

“Screwing blue-collar America?”

What? By providing jobs they can handle because they were too short-sighted, stupid, or lazy to learn a trade that earns more?

Sorry but that's not the way the world works...I would hope you would know that...

Compared to the number of potential U.S. workers, there are not many skilled trades jobs available...

It's a matter of reality...Someone is going to pay these lower skilled employees...That's already settled...Someone is going to pay for their healthcare...Someone is going to pay for their 3-D TVs...Someone is going to pay for a dependable car for them to drive...

So who do you think that should be??? Me and you, or the employer who rakes in not millions but billions of dollars off the backs of these cheap employees...For me, the answer is pretty simple...
