Well buckaroos and rooettes, I'm off to band rehearsal for the rest of the evening. It's not far, but I need to go early and set up some gear - the little practice kit has been frustrating me, and frankly, Mikey's little drums are better quality. Tonight I'm carting the chrome cannons over to the guitar players house to join my cymbals and snare which are already there. So I'm moving almost the whole zip code across the river to Ohio (sans a few bass drums, my three largest toms and the gong, lol). Anyhow, it's been a pleasure, and I hope you found something you liked. Thanks for sharing my happiest weekend in a very long time. I'll be back next week and 'til then happy Freepin', God bless and I'll see you in church.

Oh yeah, and don't forget to . . .

Smile
~ Lyle Lovett ~

ROCKUMENTARY: MAY 4, 1978

Where were you on Thursday, May 4, 1978?

I had changed jobs, leaving the computer shop of an oil company R&D division and moving to the bank that would eventually become First Interstate, now working in L.A.’s Wilshire District rather than the San Gabriel Valley. I moved from Pomona to the Crescenta Valley, which was still a well kept secret due to the fact that I-210 hadn’t yet been completed and still dead-ended at Sunland. I had met a lady who shared my interest in classical music, so my exposure to the current scene was limited to commute time on the Glendale Freeway when I listened to KHJ.

Let’s cue the Rockumentary theme!

San Remo Golden Strings: “Festival Time”

They had gone through several changes in emphasis and would go through even more changes as they adapted to the times. This came in at #10 this week.

Jefferson Starship: “Count on Me”

This is one of the most important recordings of the Seventies and one of the decade’s greatest songs. It’s horribly depressing but intensely beautiful. It came in at #9.

Kansas: “Dust in the Wind”

Having just watched "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter" on HBO, I have silver on my mind. As a historian, I can say the film is mind-numbingly bad. But it's fun.

Is it silver time tonight?

One of the greatest musicians of his era, he had gone through a lot of changes in style, and now he tried Rock Southern Style and succeeded brilliantly. It came in at #8 this week.
