I have a makerbot cupcake. The most amazing thing to me about it is the fact that it could have been built 25 years ago. It's all hardware store stuff. The magic is in the CAD software, the software that renders models into G-codes, and the modern computers need to run that software. The Federal government blatantly broke the law here and there are a lot of people even on this thread that ignore the fundamental problem. The point is Federal government has no lawful authority to take this action and it amazing to me that the entire nation isn't inflamed over this blatantly unconstitutional usurpation of powers. Mark my words, the fact that the Fed has done this means that they think their powers are no longer restrained by the constitution. Our Federal government is now officially a criminal enterprise.

Never even heard of this office. Where in the constitution was this power granted to the government. The government that was created by the states for their common defense?

Wilson received a letter from the US Office of Defense Trade Controls Compliance, Enforcement Division (DTCC/END) which demanded the group remove the content in question from public domain.

The complaint reads that the “DTCC/END” will review the data Defense Distributed has released to ensure compliance with “Category I of the USML” (United States Munitions List). Apparently, releasing the files possibly violated the ITAR, or International Traffic in Arms Regulations.

But no one is trafficking munitions or arms, just ideas.

Essentially, that is how the external fuel tank for the Space Shuttle was made, as well as the lightweight scuba airtanks, etc.

It is called filament winding. The Shuttle & scuba tanks use epoxy resin instead of wood.

If you're referring to the one pictured above, it's actually capable of firing several shots.

It's made out of ABS plastic, which has a high enough "glass transition" temperature so that the barrel doesn't deform after just one shot. It wouldn't do well on rapid fire; but, so long as it's not over heated, it can be fired multiple times.
