A Crisis of Authority
WSJ ^ | 20 May 2013 | James Taranto

The deeper meaning of the Obama scandals...

Democracy is in peril: That is an emerging theme of the liberal left's response to the Obama scandals. The argument misses the point, no doubt deliberately. What we are witnessing now is not a crisis of democracy but a crisis of authority. The administrative state, in thrall to a decadent cultural elite, has lost the consent of the governed.

"After a week of scandal obsession during which the nation's capital and the media virtually ignored the problems most voters care about--jobs, incomes, growth, opportunity, education--it's worth asking if there is something especially flawed about our democracy," declares the Washington Post's E.J. Dionne.

He goes through a partisan litany of complaints--"a radicalization of conservative politics, over-the-top mistrust of President Obama on the right, high-tech gerrymandering in the House and a Senate snarled by non-constitutional super-majority requirements"--but makes no mention of the abuses of power by the Internal Revenue Service and the Justice Department. He does hint at Benghazi, in his concluding paragraph, but only to pooh-pooh it:

Since World War II, bouts of economic growth have allowed democracies to buy their way out of trouble. One can hope this will happen again--and soon. In the meantime, politicians might contemplate their obligations to stewardship of the democratic ideal. They could begin by pondering what an unemployed 28-year-old makes of a ruling elite that expends so much energy feuding over how bureaucrats rewrote a set of talking points.

Good line:

Any legitimate authority comes from the Constitution and ultimately from God.

This administration is operating outside of that legitimate authority and only have authority that extends from the use of or the threat of the use of force.

They are a thugocracy with no legitimate authority.

Since he was elected and at each and every turn in the road, there is noghing “O” has done as consistently and openly as delegate responsibility. So much so that the hallmark of “O’s” administration is this smooth (and for the most part, NOT SO SMOOTH) handing off of all responsibility to people he ‘appoints’… or to ‘that guy over there’ who looks like he doesn’t have anything else to do-and needs a gov’t. paycheck’.

We NEVER know the criteria he uses to hand off responsibility for his Presidential mission, but we DO know that it is inevitable, routine and inscrutable. Whether it is to escape blame or to place blame or to avoid blame… “O” is nothing, if not a guy who writhes like a dying worm at the mention of personal or professions ‘responsibility’. The concept appears to be alien and abhorrent to him.

“O” is the perfect model for a spineless and irresolute jack a^% who in his entire life never had and SHOULD never have responbibility. He has set the worst possible example to the people around him and to the nation at large.

He’s too stupid, irresponsible, lazy and naive to comprehend the fact that handing off responsibility is tantamount to renouncing authority as well.

What the he%*... ‘authority’ and ‘responsibility’ are establishment values .... and NOT anything he ever had or HAS to bother about! Right?

“The administrative state, in thrall to a decadent cultural elite, has lost the consent of the governed.”

Taranto gets right to the heart of it. When the secession/revolution talk reaches the pitch we have today the govt has lost the consent of the governed.

We give the Democrats too much credit when we attribute their motives to anything other than greed. We are starting to see how the Democrats truly behave. The question now is, “Why do they behave this way?” Is Harry Reid a socialist? Is Nancy Pelosi a Moslem? Are there socialists and Moslems in the Obama administration? Sure. Enough to throw investigators off the track of these thieves. We can sit around and develop a strategy to defeat socialists and Moslems and we lose because we would be fighting shadows. The real motivation of the Democrat party is personal wealth. That is where they can be hurt and defeated.
