Diplomat: Russia to arm Syria regime with anti-aircraft missiles to prevent foreign intervention

A top Russian diplomat confirmed that Moscow will provide Syria with state-of-the art air defense missiles to prevent foreign intervention in the country.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov wouldn't say whether Russia has shipped any of the long-range S-300 air defense missile systems, but added that Moscow isn't going to abandon the deal despite strong Western and Israeli criticism.

Ryabkov said the deal helps restrain some "hot heads" considering a military intervention in Syria.

Russia has been the key ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime, protecting it from the United Nations sanctions and providing it with weapons despite the civil war there that has claimed over 70,000 lives.

Ryabkov's statement comes a day after European Union's decision to lift an arms embargo to Syrian opposition.

If we wanted to break military stuff in Syria, the time to do it was on the way into Iraq.

McCain meets with rebel leaders in Syria

I hope the new whistleblowers tell us the real story about Benghazi.

McCain aids and supports Al-Q. Rubio has also pushed for arming Al-Q in Syria.

I disagree with McCain nearly 90% of the time on foreign relations and with Obama essentially 100% of the time. I always know when an international issue comes up what position the communist in our White House will take - it’s the opposite of the position that would best serve American interests.

Agreed.

If McCain needs to dabble in geopolitics he can start with something much easier (an constitutionally appropriate) than Middle East peace, namely Benghazi.

I confess that when I look at the two sides in Syria, I kinda just want to wall the country off and have the winner let us know they won. Sort of like the Russian Front during WWII.

Everybody know the Russians have been arming the Middle East for decades. The problem is now the 0 regime is doing it too. What you are going to end up with is the Middle East with very destructive wartime capabilities BUT willing to use them. The Klingons didn’t look like Muzzies with crabs on their heads on Star Trek for nothin....

And when one of our fair-haired flyboys gets taken out with a Russian missile, Obama’s response will be...

“... How’s that for flexibility?”

I'm not worried about it. This isn't like shooting at a Mi24 HIND with MANPADS in Afghanistan.

1. Russian export equipment is not very good.
2. Arabs don't have a very good history with foreign military tech
3. SAM teams know that if they shoot at our planes, an F-16 CJ Wild Weasel will be right behind to destroy them. The Iraqis turned their radar off.

And Juan McLame is wanting to join the war on the rebels’ side (who have vowed genocide to other Muslims and Christians).

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, McPain is talking to the rebels about anti-aircraft missile-missiles.
