I believe most people who choose to work in relatively dangerous professions, be it astronauts, race car drivers or firemen think they are in a reasonable risk/reward situation.
How many NASCAR fans have been killed watching races...In 40 -50 years of stormchasing these are the first chasers/scientists to die. 3 chasers in 40 -50 years of chasing...wow!!!! No too bad in my book...it was bound to happen at some point, unfortunately.
None that I'm aware, but plenty of participants have died.
I meant Indy racing...not NASCAR. I think there has been some close calls for spectators in NASCAR????

Indy car races have had a few spectators die, but far more participants. I was at Indy in 1964.
