‘US close to OK on arming Syrian rebels’
The Times of Israel ^ | June 10, 2013, 2:34 am | Bradley Klapper

Posted on 06/09/2013 5:45:40 PM PDT by haffast

WASHINGTON (AP) — Moved by the Assad regime’s rapid advance, the Obama administration could decide this week to approve lethal aid for the beleaguered Syrian rebels and will weigh the merits of a less likely move to send in U.S. airpower to enforce a no-fly zone over the civil war-wracked nation, officials said Sunday.

White House meetings are planned over the coming days, as Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government forces are apparently poised for an attack on the key city of Homs, which could cut off Syria’s armed opposition from the south of the country. As many as 5,000 Hezbollah fighters are now in Syria, officials believe, helping the regime press on with its campaign after capturing the town of Qusair near the Lebanese border last week.

Opposition leaders have warned Washington that their rebellion could face devastating and irreversible losses without greater support, and the warnings are prompting the United States to consider drastic action.

Secretary of State John Kerry postponed a planned trip Monday to Israel and three other Mideast countries to participate in White House discussions, said officials who weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter and demanded anonymity.

Barghouti: US not an honest broker, peace talks deadlocked
By KHALED ABU TOAMEH - 06/09/2013 21:50

"However Kerry, who was expected to arrive on Tuesday, has postponed his trip. The State Department never formally announced when he would be coming back to the region, nor did the Prime Minister’s Office officially announce that a meeting had been scheduled with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

Both Israeli and US officials indicated the delay was due to scheduling problems stemming from Netanyahu’s twoday trip to Poland on Wednesday. No new date for a visit has been announced.

Last week, at an address to the American Jewish Committee in Washington, Kerry said that he has visited Israel “in March, April and May, and I will be back soon.”

One Israeli official dismissed some speculation that the postponement had to do with any problems in Kerry’s efforts to re-launch Israeli-Palestinian talks, saying that if there were a crisis, Kerry would definitely be coming to try and solve it."

I am convinced and have been for a long time that this administration is on the side of the Muslims.

Assad is a murderous barbarian.

The rebels are worse.

The Won always picks the option that is worse for this country, for Western Civilization, and for freedom itself.

This new UN woman, Samantha Power, has expressed hate for Israel before so I don’t believe we should expect anything else.

It was her that pushed for us to take action in Libya. She wants to impose her will on others and she’ll use our military to do so.

It’s only stupidity if it’s inconsistent with their goals.

In this case, it’s completely consistent with their goals.

“..Lordy this administration is out to get us all killed..”

He already has U.S. military people in Mali and Somalia; he wants his own war and he wants it to be in Africa with blacks involved, preferably killing white people (our white people, that is).

There is a minor typo, corrected as follows:

A smart country would back the winner, not the obvious loser.

The "rebels" (al Quida), whom the Obama regime supports, are getting thier asses kicked. Their only hope for victory is if the US puts boots on the ground.

“My typo was close though.”

But my version describes more Democrats!

Note to self: Gotta work on charity towards Democrats.

Faith, hope, and charity - no more!

Democrats imposed hope, gave others wealth as charity, and faith is now ‘strained’ to say the least.

Charity be damned! Vote ‘em all out. Prep for , as Baghad Bob said, the “Mother of all Political fights”.

Impossible, everyone *knows* that we've been shipping arms directly to jihadists for *two years* already. /s

Every war is different from the one previous, and it’s a popular truism that the generals are always figting the last one.

I would argue that we’re already in World War III.

But I get your point; the terrorists will be kicking in our doors before long, and congress will be calling it their civil right, while our demented president will be telling us to be charitable toward them, since they had underprivileged childhoods...

Meanwhile, they set up training camps in upstate New York and build mosques in ever major city, then populate them with the most angry and militant imams they can find.

And all we hear is a lot of government yakety-yak about their “civil rights.”

Bet the farm on it.

To: haffast

why would we arm the rebels?

the facts are that doing so will only insure even more of Syria resembles Afghanistan as it was by the mid 1990s - pulverized back to the stone age - more, thousands more civilian casualties, and thousands more Syrian refugees, and wider Russian and Iranian involvement.

If we were smart, we’d offer to supplant both Iran and Russia as Syria’s “best friend”, against the Sunni Islamists, and see what we could get for it.
