The family of the 7-year-old boy from Ann Arundel County elementary school who was suspended for making a gun shape out of a pastry has tried to clear the boys record.
This story made headlines across the country as the gun control debate has taken center stage among many elementary schools as some school administrators flex their muscles with a zero tolerance policy that excuses itself from common sense.
But according to the Baltimore Sun school officials denied the boys familys appeal on Monday, not allowing the boys record to be expunged of the incident.
Robin Ficker, attorney for Park Elementary School student Josh Welch and his family, said he will now appeal to the county school board.
Josh Welch was suspended in March for two days after school officials accused him of shaping the pastry into the form of a gun and waving it around, which was obviously a serious threat to everyone eating lunch around him.
The boys father was furious about how the entire situation was handled and how the school displayed a classic overreaction in their discipline of the boy.
When you compare the caliber of the offense to the caliber of the punishment, they dont match up, he said at the time. I just feel thats a lack of common sense in conjunction with the use of the rules and, honestly, I believe theres some personal bias involved in the decision, as well.
The family said it plans to appeal to the Anne Arundel County School Board.
The familys attorney said he has 30 days to appeal to the county school board and will more than likely do so this week.
Ive spoken to Mr. Welch, and were definitely going to appeal to the board of education, said Ficker, referring to Joshs father, J.B. Welch. If this school cant educate a 7-year-old without putting him out of school, how are they going to deal with 17-year-olds?
We stopped in Maryland on a job search. Were considering residency. Stayed in Annapolis USNA is stomping ground.
Creepy liberal feeling settled in and was walking on the Main Street in town and gazed up at a beautiful modern building gold raised title lettering Maryland Dept of Education.
Whoa!
That was like the IRS taking $50 m for conferences.
What business did these people have using prime real estate for a non profit govt organization? Who in the govt was enabling this? What kind of special did they convince themselves and the locals they were? How much we’re they confiscating from the students? And how much power were they going to wield on the upbringing of or children did they also feel entitled to?
We high tailed it out of there
It is just one of the worst formative mistakes to rip weapons from a boy. For all their self importance they don’t know the first thing about what they are doing. They cannot frustrate that primal need for a boy to master weaponry without serious consequences. Those feminist ignorant liberal educated mothers will end up looking at serious problems with these boys later with confuse gender identiy. And the wimpy dads better start wowing up and taking some control away from these idiotic women for true sake of their families and for the boys
Te not just annoying. It’s really bad
Never bring logic to a lib fight...
The parents allow the control. Either it’s a free society per the constitution or these parents with their fears and messed up priorities give it away
Over 50 years ago,as first graders, we played Mublety-peg with our pocket knives at recess. I likely was scarred for life because I did not have a cap pistol in a belted, tied to the thigh holster, as did my best friend and playmate.
The problem is stupidity, underscored by a "zero-thinking" policy.
Did they give u a reason why they forbid you to see your old teachers....? >:(
Just wow..!
Tar and feathers.
Or Smith and Wesson could offer the boy a scholarship. They will need some new talent in a few years.
Obviously the school administration is not up to caliber.
They should start by paying attention. Mothers with no respect for their sons need to be overruled by the boys dads who need to stop being so whipped
They can start practically by investigating the amount of resources paid into the dept of Ed there, and it is astounding. I’ll bet that’s not all
We had a rifle range in the school basement.
Alas, only for .22 rifles. Oh, and that was in the state of New York.
Get a lawyer. I rarely say that, but this is getting ridiculous. Multiple class actions suits.
Just how permanent is this record? Past forever, apparently. Well we do know why the authorities (child abusers) fear poptart guns.
Seems that a popular weapon of the left is to behave so irrationally and erratically that normal people will avoid confrontations with them because they are obviously unstable and insane.
At some point the rational will have had enough. Cue the classic Indiana Jones scene.
+1
I wonder what they would have done if he’d shaped it like a penis?
Yes, insane for quite a while. I recall growing up in the sixties, somehow "surviving" summer BBQ's with neighborhood WWII Vets having just discovered Lawn Darts... Heh.
If he shaped it like a penis, and declared that he was gay, that boy would have been praised for celebrating diversity.
I sometimes think I live in a parallel universe—or that the world has gone completely mad......

I have grandchildren who attend a public high school that cost $197 million. I kid you not.
