President Barack Obama said Tuesday that America owes it to certain illegal aliens to pass legislation providing a pathway to citizenship.
We owe it to America to do better, Obama said in the East Room of the White House. We owe it to the Dreamers to do better.
Obama then went on to cite several young people in the audience. Obama and supporters of the immigration reform legislation have called people who were taken into the United States illegally by their parents dreamers. Democrats previously supported the DREAM Act that would allow illegals who attend college or enlist in the military to get on the pathway to citizenship.
During the speech, Obama said the pathway in the proposal before the Senate is arduous.
You've got to pass background checks, Obama said. You've got to learn English. You've got to pay taxes and a penalty, and then you've got to go to the back of the line behind everybody whos done things the right way and have tried to come here legally. So this wont be a quick process. It will take at least 13 years before the vast majority of these individuals are able to even apply for citizenship. So this is no cakewalk.
However, he said the pathway is needed for enforcement to work....

Dismantling America 4.83.
When the Hopey-Changey crowd wakes up (a small part) it will be way too late.
i’m trying to remember why i paid so much for out of state tuition when i went to college... when all i had to do was declare myself a citizen of mexico and collect free money from the state along with lower tuition rates
and after it’s all done... pick my citizenship back up, all on the taxpayer’s dime... which wouldn’t have been me, as i would have been an illegal.
on second thought 0failure, how about screw you and your idiotic concepts.
i’m still waiting for someone to slap this tard with a tax evasion charge for filing tax returns using someone else’s ssno. yea... not holding my breath.
What do we “owe” illegals who broke the law coming into this country? But I would not expect a man who believes that quality healthcare is a “right” to satisfactorily answer that question.
If you're not prosecuting the parents, it's hard to make the case that the children are victims. Seems the only debt "owed" to the dreamers is owed to them by their parents.
odumber - I do not want, as in ever, fellow citizens who's first action on entering my Country was to break our laws. They don't get citizenship - ever!
Before we let the Democrats shove another trillion-dollar boondoggle into law the debate on immigration should be expanded. Republicans in Congress are being given a false choiceamnesty or no amnesty.
The engine that drives most illegal immigration is the poor economic and social conditions for many in Mexico.
An oligarchy of billionaires run Mexico. These people control the monopolies that dominate the Mexican economy. Traditionally they have been able to repress competition leading to slower economic growth, a stunted entrepreneurial class, a lack of foreign investment, limited choices for consumers, and fewer jobs. These conditions help keep almost half the Mexican population in poverty and only semi-employed.
This is not an indictment of capitalism but of the forces that restrict free market equity in Mexico.
Mexico is rich. Last year they passed Brazil in economic growth. But where the U.S. is over regulated, Mexico is under regulated. In the U.S. the government is the main obstacle to economic growth. In Mexico it is the ruling class. And Mexico has a judicial system that favors the powerful.
An example: Billionaire Carlos Slim controls 80 percent of telecommunicationslandlines and mobile phonesin Mexico. The absence of competition means fewer jobs, less innovation, slower growth for the industry, and little choice in rates or services for consumers. Slim is not a robber baron but a shrewd industrialist operating in the environment he was born into.
The key to solving the illegal immigration crisis may be forceful diplomacy aimed at helping Mexico design a new regulatory model that encourages competition, foreign investment and a new generation of entrepreneurs and small business owners.
A task force of thinkers and builders drawn from across the spectrum of the U.S. economy could serve as an economic Peace Corps.
This will not be easy but it will be far easier than attempting to assimilate tens of millions of Mexican nationals into our system.
The US government should owe all naturally born American citizens the opportunity for gainful employment.
I understand where Barry is coming from. After all, he was a young illegal once.
Seems a bit counterintuitive to now say I owe a debt to the very fruits of the crimes I tried to stop.
We should agree that our immigration laws should be as “generous” as Mexico’s.
Not to be pissed away to people who didn't earn it, or people who don't understand
what actual freedom stands for. And especially not to be given to people for VOTES!
Send them back to the Governments their parents accept without a fight, back to the
cesspool they came from so they don't turn our America into what they ran away from.
No Obama, we don't want their poor and illiterate! We want their best and brightest.
Let their poor make the food and sweep the floors in their own country.
And dig their own graves, not ours.
screw Obama and screw illegal spick punks , we do not owe they anything . They belong in camps ; camps dedicated to building The Wall ( the border wall along our entire southern border )
How about a path back to the border?
This piece of shit decides we “owe” illegals? We owe them nothing. Why do I owe them anything? They should be treated as invaders and either imprisoned or immediately deported.
Our Southern border is more porous than a Chicago teen- minority's cervix.
You forgot part of the headline.
This entire notion of owing anyone outside of our citizens; at least that argument can be made for healthcare in general although not the way its being implemented; is insanity of the highest order. So we owe people who entered our borders illegally then how about the people just over the border? They look from the barren wasteland that is Mexico (why else do they keep coming?) at our gleaming skyscrapers and say why not me too? How about them? They only need walk over the border after all and be exactly like their illegal brethren. Where does this end?
We owe illegal Aliens bumpkus.
They are Citizens and the responsibility, of some OTHER Country!
We owe that other Country the respect of viewing these vistor’s are their Citizens
Dreamers and SCHEMERS.....”How do we get free housing, education, food, medical care PAID FOR BY SOMEONE ELSE?”
We owe you retirement via impeachment kenyan.
> Obama: We Owe’ Young Illegals a Path to Citizenship
Me, “No we don’t.”
Sorry Barry. I’m not an America-hating, Kenyan Marxist. I don’t “owe” them ****. Where do you get this “we” crap?
Close the borders today. Start deporting 1 million illegals a month until they’re gone. Begin talks about immigration.
What if they refuse a background check, refuse to learn English, and/or don’t get a job? What happens then? Do they get deported? And once deported, what’s to stop them from ending up back here within a week, since “legalization comes before security?”
We must LOUDLY reject the 'we owe' message and refuse to be guilted into providing lifetimes of entitlements to people whose familial ties to the U.S. began with a violation of our Federal laws.
Obama: We Owe' Young Illegals a Path to CitizenshipWho is 'we' blac.. uh .. Kenyan? You got a mouse in your pocket?
If that’s the case then we should reward children of bank robbers also. Didn’t they break the law and were’nt the children paying a price for their father going to prison?
Anyone who has not spent a couple days on the border (or a Home Depot at 7am) has no standing. NObama and other losers live tucked away in their protective circles. They need to walk the streets of El Paso, Eagle Pass, or Laredo without secret service protection and see how they like it. Send his daughters down there for a shopping spree without guards.
Killing innocents for the crimes of others is barbaric.
...and the mother's health
De facto abortion on demand.
We do not “OWE” anything to them. I could be persuaded to allow some of them to EARN it.
Rubio has made this argument, that what else can we do for those people already here.
The problem with this argument, even if you accept the premise, is that the exact same argument would hold true in 10 years.
Meaning they pass this bill, and over the next 10 years, millions more people come into the country illegally. Now THEY are the ones “in the shadows”. And the argument remains — it is unfair to keep them in the shadows.
I actually agree with the concept that, all other things being taken care of, we should accept the children who grew up in this country for immigration. They didn’t break the law, their parents did. And they don’t have a home to go back to, they never lived in that country, they might not know the language, they were educated here, and should be part of our culture.
And in fact, many times their parents WERE here legally, and only later stopped getting their visa renewed, or otherwise lost their legal status. Or the kid turned 18, and now is no longer covered under their parent’s legal visa, and so they need there own, but the broken system didn’t provide a way for them to get their own legal immigration papers (in part because of all the illegals clogging up the system).
If that was ALL that was being proposed, in exchange for securing the borders and going after the adults that came here illegally, I’d support it.
