(Reuters) - A landmark immigration bill survived a major challenge in the Senate on Thursday when its bipartisan "Gang of Eight" sponsors beat back an amendment that would have delayed a pathway to citizenship for 11 million illegal residents.

The proposal by Iowa Republican Charles Grassley would have prohibited a first step toward granting them legal status until the U.S. Department of Homeland Security "has maintained effective control" of the entire U.S.-Mexico border - 1,969 miles - for a period of six months.

Critics charged it could take years to achieve such a nebulous goal, undermining a centerpiece of the effort to overhaul the immigration system.

Wow, great title, Reuters. I assume some of the WSJ nerds were seeking employment and they were picked up.

This tells you exactly what this is all about and it tells you there is no intention of ever securing the border

Re: “Hard to tell the difference between Reuters and LaRaza.”

Also hard to tell the difference between Reuters, La Raza, Marco Rubio, John McCain, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Commentary Magazine, and The Weekly Standard.

So essentually we are going to give amnesty to 11 million
so that 11 million more can come across the border...?

This isn’t Sparta, it’s insanity.

It's worse than that. As Coulter says, the "legislation" allows the 30 million additional relatives of those already here to come over, also. Foreign born Latinos have a strong propensity towards socialism, hate capitalism, and embrace big government. The Dems have won the country...it is the end of America as we know it.

The Gang of Eight has been saying constantly, “border security first, and now they admit it was nothing but talk. A totally empty promise.

Some of us will fight this garbage until we win or die... some have already quit and will not try but will just accept their new overlords.

Good...we need that resistance. But, here in AZ with Flake & McCain leading the charge to destruction, it will be a long road.

What do you reckon would be the response if a bunch of Caucasians started a similar advocacy group and called it “The Race” (i.e. English).

Hell, we’re a minority group, ain’t we?
