Posted on 06/21/2013 5:28:44 PM PDT by Theoria
Sen. Marco Rubio has a problem. He has transformed from conservative hero to suspect in the eyes of many on the political right because he now supports "a path to citizenship" for people unlawfully in the U.S. after forcefully opposing it in 2010 when he was running for U.S. Senate.
The senator from Florida, who's considered to be a potential Republican presidential candidate, has tried to gloss over the shift. Unfortunately, he's getting called on it. By Factcheck.org. And by many conservatives, like those who booed his name when it was mentioned at a Tea Party rally this week on Capitol Hill. Or Ann Coulter, who said Friday the Senate shouldn't take up immigration until it becomes a Rubio-free body. Former Republican Rep. Allen West is even saying he might give Rubio a primary challenge over his immigration shift.
If Rubio does decide to make the run for president, he will certainly be attacked not only as a flip-flopper but for supporting a policy that's anathema to many conservatives. So, what's a senator to do?
Rubio has a few options, though they all have risks. Here are some possible approaches:
The people made me do it: Rubio could always say he decided to change his position to more accurately reflect the desires of his Florida constituency.
A Quinnipiac University poll released this week indicated that 58 percent of those surveyed agreed with the "path to citizenship" approach while 12 percent said people in the U.S. unlawfully should be allowed to stay, but not given citizenship. Only 24 percent were of the deport or self-deport persuasion.
Even among Florida Republicans, nearly half, 47 percent, supported a citizenship path with 15 percent being willing to let those here unlawfully stay but without allowing them to become citizens.

He has no “problem”. He’s set for life.
Nah, he was always for amnesty. He is just a better snake oil salesman than others.
Rubio’s next campaign is DOA!! TRAITOR!!
Suspect? Hardly. Convicted from his own mouth and his evil deeds. He is finished for good.
He’s a liar.
Says one thing in English the opposite in spanish. He’s a liar.
Invite the world, invade the world.
WHY the RUSH???
Just a few felony crimes that will be waived for ILLEGAL aliens under Immigration Bill S.744:
Falsely representing or knowingly using a Social Security Number obtained with false information
Falsely claiming citizenship on Form I-9
Knowingly altering a Social Security Card
Document fraud to prove eligibility for employment
Comment at site may say it all: Isnt Barack Obama subject to charges for all of these offenses? Maybe thats why the immigration bill is getting the ultra-fast track treatment; maybe evidence of his ineligibility is mounting toward levels which can no longer be ignored.
Taqiyya, with a side of beans.
Wow, I didn’t know it would waive those felonies. Always shake my head when I hear that illegal aliens aren’t criminals. Those who fill out I-9 forms sure as hell are.
Heck no! His next campaign, he'll have a D after his name, along with a built-in story of how he was a victim of Republican prejudice against Latinos. ("I didn't leave the GOP... sniff, sob.... they left me!")
I’m actually glad he’s screwed up his plans to run for the presidency. I really didn’t want to deal with the “he’s not eligible” stuff that will be thrown at him by the media. (Yes, it will be the media.)
I doubt he is finished. Come a election day, you would be surprised at how many people vote for the lesser of two evils nonsense.
I think Rubio’s only chance is to say, “I was wrong. I got sidetracked by the attention and forgot what I believe. I’ve got my head on straight again. Don’t support any bill by the Gang of Seven. I’m not running for the presidency, period.
I don’t need any explanation from Marco Rubio. He’s a liar and a traitor for what he has done to our country.
That about says it. If these guys can do this stuff to us, and not lose their job over it, we can only expect to be treated this way. I would like to see Rubio lose his job over this, but he probably won't. Cornyn, McConnell, Graham all three are pushing this crap down our throats, all 3 up for re-election, and I doubt a single one of them will even have a challenger in the primary. Rand Paul is supposed to be on our side, yet is trying to protect McConnell from a primary challenge. We are so screwed if we don't start firing some of these guys. Unfortunately they don't seem to have to worry too much about losing their jobs.
born May 28, 1971 in Miami, FL (Meets the Jus Soli Requirement)
Mario Rubio born in Cuba, naturalized Nov. 5, 1975.
Oria Garcia born in Cuba, naturalized Nov. 5, 1975.
Parents were NOT US Citizens at the time of his birth (Does NOT meet the Jus Sanguinis Requirement)
Marco Rubio is NOT a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.
Marco's status is the same as that of Barry Soetoro, aka Barack Hussein Obama, who is NOT a Natural Born Citizen.
Marco Rubio will probably run as a Democrat the next election.
Points to keep in mind:
>> There is no record of who is here illegally.
>> Illegals can apply for green card immediately from their
home country because there is no record of their crime. Green card (permanent residence visa) is automatic path to citizenship in 5 years.
So, the way I understand it, Rubio is proposing to allow the illegals to apply for green card from US instead of from their home country.
If I was able to come face to face with Rubio I would spit right in his face, and take the consequences.
There is no one in Congress I would not spit in their face.
Nailed it brother.
I wonder if Dupio is smart enough to realize that in going all in for amnesty, he presented Schmuck Shumer with a two-fer: 1) as a “conservative” front to sell the amnesty disaster, and 2) a means to destroy Dupio as an up-and-coming contender for the Republican presidential nominee.
Anyway, better we find out about Dupio now than later.
If the amnesty bill crashes and burns, at least one good thing will have come out of it: Dupio (and others) have shown their true colors.
Yep. Watch for him to change parties and run as a Demwit in the next presidential election. He should be a shoe-in with all the wetbacks voting for him. And he won’t have to worry about eligibility as a Demwit.
Nope. His big problem is the shift itself. No explanation needed.
Did he get blackmailed like Justice Roberts?
Rubio as a presidential candidate makes me puke.
What goes around; comes around.
Rubio makes the perfect democratic senator now. Deep betrayal.
Correct! And an additional piece of interesting information..........this is the same for "Bobby Jindal" whose parents were also not U.S. Citizens at the time of Bobby's 1971 Baton Rouge birth....... in this country.
The Constitution says Bobby can be a Representative in the U.S. House, a Senator in the U.S. Senate.....even a Justice on the Supreme Court.....but he can never be the "Commander in Chief" because he is only a "Born Citizen" and fails to qualify as a "Natural Born Citizen".
I'm surprised we still see a debate on this elementary Constitutional provision. It's probably because everyone feels a precedent has now been set because of the current occupant of the Oval Office. He's there because there were no principled folks willing to be called a "Racist" .......insisting that the Constitution be adhered to when he ran.
As an aside.........Bobby can also be a State's Governor if he desires.
I cannot understand why we (as a nation) find it so difficult to uncover and promote "Natural Born Citizens" as candidates for the office of "POTUS".
change parties and run as a turncoat “demo” he is
Think of what Rubio and Jindal could have accomplished if they together publicly had stated,
"We'd like to put these VP nomination rumors to rest once and for all. While serving as VP would be a great honor,
We'd not be able to accept the office as we are not a Natural Born Citizens.
Our parents became US Citizens after our births so by the eligibility requirements specified in Article. II. Section. 1. We're not eligible.
The fact that the CommieRAT Party lied about their usurper Obama's status doesn't change the Constitutional Natural Born Citizen requirement."
Marco Rubio’s problem is that he’s Marco Rubio.
On which page in the US Constitution it says “a natural born citizen is one whose parents are US citizens”?
I had to memorize the entire US constitution and all amendments for my citizenship test back in 1970.
Marco Rubio's Big Problem: He's a two trick pony, clean cut & Cuban!
Did you see the poll data? 47% of Florida Republicans support a path to citizenship. He will be a senator as long as he wants....but it will be without my vote.
Somebody did! He damn near broke his own neck when he made that sudden left turn.
He wants to catch up with Christie on the “fool them with the conservative speak” and then go full bore RINO once you have climbed under the blanket of socialism.
It doesn't say that a "Natural Born Citizen" is one whose parents are U.S. Citizens at the time of his birth. But...it says this....peculiar only to the presidency:
U.S. Constitution [Article II, Section 1, Paragraph 4]
No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.
When the framers wrote the Constitution this "Natural Born" provision was commonly known the same way we, today.....know that the "World Series" pertains to baseball....and the "Super Bowl" pertains to football. One does not have to say.....the "Super Bowl Football Game" because everyone knows that the "Super Bowl"......IS Football! By including "Football Game"....you're just being redundant!
"The Law of Nations", written mid 18th century (1758) was the initial description of the term, "Natural Born". It was penned by "Emmerich de Vattel" and read by statesmen throughout Europe and the Colonies and quoted frequently by the framers. Here is the pertinent section, #212:
The citizens are the members of the civil society; bound to this society by certain duties, and subject to its authority, they equally participate in its advantages. The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens. As the society cannot exist and perpetuate itself otherwise than by the children of the citizens, those children naturally follow the condition of their fathers, and succeed to all their rights. The society is supposed to desire this, in consequence of what it owes to its own preservation; and it is presumed, as matter of course, that each citizen, on entering into society, reserves to his children the right of becoming members of it. The country of the fathers is therefore that of the children; and these become true citizens merely by their tacit consent. We shall soon see whether, on their coming to the years of discretion, they may renounce their right, and what they owe to the society in which they were born. I say, that, in order to be of the country, it is necessary that a person be born of a father who is a citizen; for, if he is born there of a foreigner, it will be only the place of his birth, and not his country.
This term, "Natural Born Citizen" was commonly accepted throughout the world as what the above paragraph indicates the definition to be. It has only been recently (last 50 years or so) that this definition has come into question. This is due to the fact that the U.S. Constitution is no longer taught in our public schools.
Sorry........I meant to ping you to post #48.
Every damned one of them succumbs to the DC lobotomy given time. Plus a few hefty checks from the OBL in this case.
