Edward Snowden, the former US intelligence contractor who leaked classified documents revealing US internet and phone surveillance, has asked Ecuador for asylum.

The request was confirmed by Ecuador's foreign minister on Twitter.

Wonder if obama will send fighters to intercept and force it to land here?

Brave Sir Robin Obama? Mess with one of Putin's aircraft? Ha! Not likely, not ever.

because the US extradition request was incomplete and there was no legal basis to restrict him from departing.

Perhaps it was incomplete by design?

Only if they didn’t know what he thought he knew, already.

Regardless of damage - his intent was treasonous.

He is symptomatic of the systemic corruption that has evidently become SOP in the bureaucratic termite mound that pretends to be OUR government.

Who vetted a cheating liar like that for TSSCI?

What constitution was he defending when he was, or at least thought he was, giving information to the Communist Chinese?

<...”he could have remained anonymous”....>

Exactly...but then he wouldn't have the world wide attention would he....the same with stealing the Intelligence Documents....if he really wanted to change things why didn't he stay at his job and work to do that..to change the very things he saw and complained about.

He was an admirer of Assange and followed him...also of the same political mindset of “changing the world” to become what they want it to be.....neither willing to do “the hard work” to make it happen as so many have.

Narcissistic people like these two think they have the edge nobody else has...they both will learn otherwise.

USIS ....A company that is currently in the thros of an investigation and found to be falsifying resumes and records. Which of course are “people” processing that information.

So the question is “who” pushed Snowden’s records thru.

Interesting site.... employees who work At USIS that vetted Snowden.... what they have to say ......seems they all are time pressed to meet quotas....regardless of the national security issues they have raised to their management in vetting people.

Thought this would interest you...from a former employee who worked at USIS the company that vettted Snowden and now under investigation..and was before this event with Snowden..

‘Senior Investigator’ (Former Employee USIS)

I worked at US Investigations Services full-time for more than 10 years

When this company was first formed management had solid values, integrity;... as new management evolved replaced old management for the “new culture”, the ethics went down the toilet in favor of money/ bonuses/entitlements for mid-to upper management only.

Once the integrity and value added concept went down the toilet and it was only for pushing the cattle for more more revenue, the investigation process was no longer geared for National Security but for revenue building, I fortunately left voluntarily for a competitor. .....It was notabley pardon the pun the best decision I could have ever have made.

They will eat you up, spit you out if you don’t push out those reports along even though reports lacked critical information,... even though it was strongly encouraged to hurry those source interviews along,... make only 2 attempts to contact a source,... read your questions like a script with no depth,... the list goes on and on....

And now the truth is finally out what a production sweat shop this place is,..... we tried to alert the Government (OPM) for years... and it was ignored... until now of all things ..... USIS is under investigation for the NSA scandal due to allegedly incorrectly performing background investigations.

Goes back to government being too big no matter what the companies and contractors are....and the corruption that permeates our entire nation.

I get the terrible feeling our entire government system, and this nation entire, is cracking all over place and it won’t take much more to crash the entire thing.....and if it does.... we are in a world of hurt ‘beyond imaginable’.

I don’t care how advanced this nation is with all it’s technical equipment etc...it’s still run and operated by people...and they no longer have the values, discipline or basic standards conduct this nation was favored for.

We have lost our favor with God.

Favor with God was lost only because people stopped bothering to ask for it. They got jaded, started to believe in the power of themselves and of the world. God did not move. People did.

Goes back to the tendency of human nature to worship its own creation; especially in the form of government idolatry whose name in the Old Testament was, repeatedly : Ba’al.

I always felt that was a total violation of international law, but North and Reagan (as much as I otherwise respect them) were heralded as gutsy by many.

Some violations of international law are more equal than others.

But if Bambi did it now, they would love it (and I would still hate it).

Hopefully, it would turn out to be the wrong airplane. Obama would be the optimal loser.

Did some research. There are no direct flights from moscow to either Quito nor Guayaquil. The closest international flight would be via Amsterdam, the netherlands.

That would be a bad choice. He'd have to trust the Dutch.

He's probably booked on Aeroflot flight SU 150, a non-stop departing at 14:05 (06:05 Eastern, real soon now) and arriving at 18:45. That will put him in Havana, from which it is easy to reach Ecuador.

As CINC, Zero could order the flight diverted. But there would be risks. Zero doesn't like those.

And, who knows? Maybe I'm wrong, and Snowden's on a different flight!

That may change, depending on how Snowden acts going forward, but as of today, that man is a hero in my opinion.

* * *

My opinion may likewise change, as events & information come to light, but as of now I am glad Snowden acted as he did. The “proper” way to bring this stuff to light would have been to go to a member of Congress as a whistleblower ... but the Obama crowd has already treated whistleblowers in a very cavalier manner, and most Congresscritters seem scared of the Democrats (judging from their actions).

Snowden very likely thought there was no Congressman (or woman) powerful enough and interested enough to shelter him if he tried to be a whistleblower from within this country. I don’t blame him for fleeing. And I’m glad these excesses have come to light. For far too long, Americans have been fat and dumb and happy. At least now perhaps we can become a little less dumb and happy. (The fat will probably remain. ;o)

With three laptops full of classified information, who is to say what information is damaging to our country and what isn't. Although it is unknowable, I wonder what everyone's reaction would have been if this went down under a Republican presidency. I saw someone else on this forum call Putin a "Patriot" the other day because he's allowing Snowden to bring the classified information to his operatives.

Strange times we are living in.

Waldo wasn’t motivated by the good of the people as some are inclined to think....he mirrors his friend Assange in every way as two peas in a pod.

Waldo wants the glory he couldn’t attain from doing the hard work it takes to earn that....heck he even took a pole dancer as his cover while he played “house” to make it all seem “normal”...one who he could drop when the time was right.

He said he took the jobs to gather the Documents he was seeking....Assange wants Documents and doesn’t put any weight in facrs...neither does Waldo.

The guy is dirt IMO...and as far as revealing Gov. is gathering personal information on us....since when have they not?

Assange is playing his hand very well now as his coffers fill up with the revenues from all those willing to “assist” his stooge Waldo fly the friendly skies.

We didn’t need this show to know our Government is corrupt...nor that they were spying on us...good grief you can’t stop at a red light without your license being photographed, or swipe a card without giving them any information they want. Just take a look at your grocery list revealing what you buy...formula would indicate a baby in the house etc. etc.

So this is Assange’s shooooooooow to be front stage on the International stage..and currently he has it...all the way to the bank.

I think when Waldo began his escapade there were many who were willing to wait a bit to see how it was going to play...his actions..where he went..and what documents he would show and most importantly to whom would prove his intentions.....Giving those to the Guardian should have been a heads up for everyone to begin with...Assange and his teams are seamed with the Guardian.....

...so as Waldo moved along his steps were clearly in the ‘same stride’ as Assange’s...and the style of delivering Documents at specific and planned events in order to affect International Events.... Waldo did likewise with Greenwalds trusty delivery service.

Waldo thinks he’s on the good side of Assange...what he doesn’t know is there is no good side of the man.....but he will soon learn that Assange plays for keeps.

Re: “Obama would never issue the order.”

Don’t be too sure.

How many people who may have known too much about the Clinton Syndicate had airplanes mysteriously fall out from under them and crash with no survivors?

Some people are still trying to prove that TWA 800 was shot down rather than had a tank explode, but few seem to take them seriously, despite several eyewitness accounts of what appeared to be a SAM missile taking it down.

If an airliner full of people goes down in a remote area, who investigates the “accident”?
The government, right?

There was a good reason why Snowden wasn’t on that plane - he probably knew better. Then again, has anyone heard from him lately?

He probably knows that his days are seriously numbered wherever he tries to hide out.

As an aside; where has “Anonymous” been through all of this? Have they made any statements or taken either side of the “big brother” issue?
