Rather than answer the simple question as to what is the moral difference between killing a baby outside the womb or inside the womb, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has criticized me and Priests for Life, of which I am the national director, for raising the issue in an open letter, calling us arrogant, medieval, hysterical, and disconnected from the Church.
I would like to know if Mrs. Pelosi, in her charges that we are arrogant, medieval, and hysterical, intends to include the more than 14,000 people (and counting) who signed onto my open letter to her in just the past few days. Rather than resorting to name-calling, she should answer the question all of us have raised.
In refusing to answer this question, and instead choosing to criticize the messenger and then assert her own version of Catholicism, Mrs. Pelosi repeats the same display of avoidance and inconsistency as she exhibited at the June 13 press briefing that prompted my letter in the first place. Continuing to support dismemberment abortion, and refusing to explain its distinction from murder, she has disconnected herself from both faith and reason.
Priests for Life will not allow this to go unchallenged.
As for her assertion that she might pay attention to a more intellectual letter, the beginning of an intellectual approach to this discussion is to answer the simple question that started the discussion. Mrs. Pelosi refuses to take that first step.
The open letter to Mrs. Pelosi continues to receive thousands of adherents each day from across the country.
In her interview with ThinkProgress earlier this week, Mrs. Pelosi said, "I grant the Church where they are on abortion. That's where they are, that's where they have to be. But my faith isn't about what their position is."
The beautiful thing about Catholic Faith is that it is not some kind of mysterious knowledge available only to elites or to the person holding it. Rather, it can be plainly understood by prince and pauper, young and old, educated and illiterate. We can all recognize when it is embraced and when it is rejected. Mrs. Pelosi has clearly rejected it, stating again that her faith is not what the Church teaches.
We don't need to consult the Catechism to know that terrorism is wrong - reason makes this plain. And yet, those who flew airplanes into our buildings were, all the while, professing their faith. You also don't need to know theology or be a priest to conclude that tearing a baby apart limb by limb is wrong - reason likewise makes this clear. Yet, Nancy Pelosi has done it again - she's trying to use faith talk to escape what both reason and Catholicism teach about abortion, and to escape answering this simple question: "What is the moral difference between killing a premature newborn and aborting a baby?"
Editor's Note: Priests for Life is the nation's largest Catholic pro-life organization dedicated to ending abortion and euthanasia. For more information, visit www.priestsforlife.org.
they’re probably waiting until after Amnesty passes before excommunicating her.
She is a liberal’s liberal. No aspect of your life should be free from government meddling.
EXCEPT
When it comes to killing your baby. In that one isolated case she is a pure Ayn Rand Libertarian.
You would that the Obamanation would be against abortion so their would be more citizen-slaves paying for illegal immigrants benefits.../s
To Pelosi, late term abortion is “sacred ground”.......if you worship satan.
I don’t understand why the church doesn’t excommunicate her.
their= there
She did that a long, long time ago.
No big surprise. Neither faith nor reason have anything to do with her (and he constituents’) politics. Pelosi is a creature of politics and does what it takes to get elected and increase her power.
It is SO wunnerful to hear the voice of the Catholic Church on this. Glad to hear them BLAST The Truth.
I understand that excommunication isn't so simple.
I THINK that she has to come out publicly and vociferously on the topic.
If I am wrong, correct me.
Abuse of botox and alcohol will do that to a person...
It’s just ‘Democrat Party’. There’s nothing “democratic” about how they go about things.
I think Nancy’s ‘reason disconnect’ is congenital
Only her Bishop can excommunicate her, and it’s good only in the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Excommunication is between her and God. She has excommunicated herself many times over, and she will answer to St. Peter for every time she took Communion while excommunicated. Also for every time she lied about what the Catholic church teaches. St. Peter will probably get her for her misrepresentation of St. Augustine’s teachings too.
She’s Catholic. What’d you expect......./s

that’s assuming she was once connected, I have doubts about that
Since it would be rude for Catholics to do so, I still think it would be hilarious were the Catholics to recruit some Protestants to dress like priests and nuns, and carry out faux bell, book and candle excommunications on Nancy Pelosi, when she showed up for some speaking engagement.
Just stand outside the venue, and perform the old ritual so that the crowd can see, making it clear that it is directed at Pelosi.
I suggest this, because even though many of her followers are obviously not Catholic, or even Christian, this actually means that they are *more* subject to superstition, fear of such things as this “magic Catholic ritual” of excommunication.
So for them, even a faux excommunication would make something happen to them, like what happened when the Nazis opened the Ark of the Covenant.
And all because they were heathen followers of Nancy Pelosi.
Her “faith” is empty. Her actions show she does not know the Lord. All the wealth and position in the world won’t buy her a place in Heaven. Barring the intervention of the Holy Spirit in her life she will likely end up the same place as many of her former colleagues have...and that isn’t Heaven. “For what will it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul”.
