My uncle was illiterate too dropped out of school third grade during hard times to work the farm. He never received government “handups” and lived well with a good job. He often referred to having attended the “school of hard knocks” laughingly.
Jeantel is an example of a new citizen of the US. She is a product of the public school system and a product of her culture. There are millions of Jeantels among us, making sure our votes and politics don’t count.
