The vast majority of Americans, 81%, say they are aware of the 2010 Affordable Care Act's (ACA's) requirement that most Americans must carry health insurance or pay a fine. Americans who are currently uninsured -- those most directly affected by this requirement -- are much less likely to be aware of the provision, with 56% saying they know about it and 43% saying they are unaware.
The results are based on a June 20-24 Gallup poll, which asked a series of questions on the ACA, the comprehensive healthcare reform bill signed into law by President Obama in 2010. Many of the law's key provisions will go into effect January 2014. Gallup previously reported that more Americans thought the law would make the healthcare situation worse than better for themselves and the nation.
The subgroups that are less likely to be aware of the health insurance requirement are also the subgroups that are least likely to be insured, including Hispanics, blacks, young adults, and those in lower-income households.
The federal government is ramping up its efforts to increase awareness among the uninsured to purchase health insurance. Those who lack insurance can find and purchase a plan for 2014 through a government website starting Oct. 1.
Three in Four Americans at Least Somewhat Familiar With the ACA
From a broader perspective, most Americans say they are at least somewhat familiar with the ACA as a whole -- with 16% saying they are very familiar with it and 59% saying they are somewhat familiar with it. Those who currently have insurance are more likely to say they are familiar with the law than those who are uninsured.

Exactly. Deep in the bowls of the IRS, there are coders who will develop algorithms that will output those in certain zip codes (and/or other parameters) that reference Conservatives.
I have no doubt that very few RATs will be getting fined.
Our government is insanely corrupt and accelerating its attack on Conservatives.
Total Uninsured Very/Somewhat Familiar: 65%
Uninsured Not Aware of Purchase Requirement: 43%
Complete Morons who think ObamaCare is Free Health Care: 22%

That penalty will be the greater of: a flat dollar amount per person that rises to $695 in 2016...The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) have estimated that about 30 million nonelderly residents will be uninsured in 2016, but the majority of them will not be subject to the penalty tax...Others will be subject to the mandate but exempted from the penalty taxfor example, because they will have income low enough that they are not required to file an income tax return,...or because the premium they would have to pay would exceed a specified share of their income (initially 8 percent in 2014 and indexed over time). CBO and JCT estimate that between 18 million and 19 million uninsured people in 2016 will qualify for one or more of those exemptions. Of the remaining 11 million to 12 million uninsured people, some individuals will be granted exemptions from the penalty because of hardship,...In general, households with lower income will be subject to the flat dollar penalty (with adjustments to account for the lower penalty for children and an overall cap on family payments), and households with higher income will owe a percentage of their income. In 2016, households with income that exceeds 400 percent of the FPL are estimated to constitute about one-third of people paying penalties and to account for about two-thirds of the receipts from those penalties.
F U B O!
They may find out differently. They WILL run up against the wrong people. They WILL get what they deserve.
Let this be a lesson for an uninformed electorate: maybe now folks will actually learn about their candidates before voting for them.
Absolutely. That’s the problem with our system now, and we’re about to make it much worse.
People who have to pay for services, naturally minimize the services they use. If it’s perceived as the government paying, “Well, I better get my money’s worth!”
Isn’t there a floor income below which the Obamasites don’t have to comply?
Any thought that the tax form will aks what race you are?
Makes for easy enforcement.
I hope you are correct on that. I don't know the facts, I am making some assumptions based on the modus operandi of the IRS thugs, and the intentions of the scum that wrote this fascist garbage.
In is in the Obamacare Survival guide.
I spoke to my Enrolled Agent Gnome a while back with a major national tax firm. The Gnome is horrified at the prospect of meeting with clients many are poor or broke since 08’ and now have to tell them about this, and explain it all because for many, this is the only financial professional they interface with all year. It is going to be a Cluster Fornication of UnLawful Carnal Knowledge...
There’s probably something built in to the *immigration* bill that offers these uninformed victims a bail out. More 0Stash (taxpayer dollahs), ya know.
All the commies need to say is, “Boooosh did it.” The stupids will hate the GOP for making them pay a fine for their free health care and vote for the commies to fix it. Better yet, they could say “the Christians did it” and get their voters to burn down churches.
LOL!! That's a funny story!
I think people in SC should offer their spare rooms to illegal immigrants. Maybe Loveable Lindsey can come up with a federal program where SC people who are “generous” can get extra compensation.
Sadly, AZ and SC are proof that this will never happen.
“One CPA told me that the IRS doesnt have the power in the ACA law to actually levy and collect the fine.”
So what? They can’t produce the law that allows the IRS to collect income tax but it hasn’t stopped them. Almost everything government is doing these days is done without legal authority, it is done under “color” of law. The whole health care act is in total violation of the constitution, the mere fact that the supreme court voted otherwise changes nothing in reality.
