W/2 Weeks’ Worth Of Trans Fat, Long John Silver’s ‘Big Catch’ Dubbed Worst Restaurant Meal
Consumerist ^ | July 2, 2013

It hasn’t even been seven months since the Center for Science in the Public Interest unveiled its annual list of most calorific, fat-fortified meals, but the CSPI was apparently so grossed out by a new menu item from Long John Silver’s that it couldn’t wait to include in next year’s round-up and has awarded it the title of Worst Restaurant Meal in America.

A virtual high five to you my man, that’s just what I was thinking. if I were closer to one I’d be in the car. And a medium Mountain Dew with lots of high fructose corn syrup and caffiene while I’m there, and a refill for the road!

Look for combinations under one roof of two of Taco Bell, Long John Silver’s, Pizza Hut, A&W Root Beer, and KFC. They’re all owned by the same company.

Yes, an A&W/KFC right across the street. If Yum! managed to put all five in a single restaurant location that would be fine with me.

I agree 100%.

It’ just that I know I have amended my “bad for you” meal eating routine based on being better informed. When one delicious, but bad for you, meal is 1/10 the saturated/trans fat, sodium, chemicals, etc... of another just as delicious but bad for you meal, I now go for the former.

I”m much better off for it, and I thank those who have had to force restaurants to start disclosing the information.

It seems like you do not want the information for some reason. Where as, I’m appreciative.

Enjoy your quadrupel quarter pounder with cheese and bacon you are going to be grilling up on the 4th. I know I will.

Oh my goodness. You need a bunch of do gooders to FORCE by law the number of calories and fat in a dish???? I feel sorry for you. I learned nutrition when I was young. I know how to eat what is good and healthy. I don;t need a bunch of calorie counters running around trumpeting results.

Every now and then I like something else and I eat that without needing anyone else to tell me how horrible it is.

The governmental nannies have gone further than anyone should have ever allowed.

Eat what you want. Learn nutrition if you don’t already know.

Again, you are missing the point about giving people choices. I LIKE the fact that I can pick the lesser of two evils when eating bad. I like being informed.

You seem to despise learning the truth about the foods. Your choice is NOT to read the calories, content, label, etc...

I learned nutrition as well when I was young. I know to limit bad foods as much as possible. But I also know that Given the info, I would choose a meal that is 100% of the daily allowance for fat/salt/etc... than one that is a weeks allotment of fat/salt/etc... Sometimes you don’t know it’s an order of magnitude worse.

I was surprised to find out LJS still exists. They all fled the desert, somebody else moved into their buildings, and they died too. It’s sad, while LJS is really crappy food every once in a while I get the urge for that distinctive “all in one frier” flavor, always liked getting the mixed plate and trying to figure out what each particular piece is, alas no more.

pikers. on the 4th, I’m frying breaded pork tenderloins and my own onion rings followed by home made ice cream. maybe I need to think of something to fry for an appetizer?

You need something green....how about fried green tomatoes, or even better--fried pickles! Yum :::mouth watering::: :-)

You are so totally confused it is unreal. My point has always simply been I don’t need do gooders to do MY due diligence for me. I don’t need the STATE to tell me what and how to eat. These so called ‘information centers’ have spent their time and effort to get food OUTLAWED (eg NYC and Bloomberg).

People’s choices are based upon people’s responsibility. If you do not act responsibly WHY would you rely on some one else to do so for you?

without the do gooders, we wouldn't know the "nutritional" content of most of this stuff. THAT is what I like. Bloomberg? Not so much. You seem to want to take this in some other chest pounding direction. All I've ever stated is that I appreciate the pressure to get information out there. If you could clam down there hulk and retread what I actually posted, you would see this to be the case.

I’m delusional for appreciating the fact that we have actual nutritional information on meals that we NEVER had before?

Keep on burying your head and making poor choices that could have been greatly mitigated, had you had more information.

The desire to be poorly informed on your part is mindboggling. This I shall not continue trying to understand your line of “reasoning”, when it comes to having more nutritional information concerning foods. Perhaps someone else can explain it to you better, I give up.

You are delusional because you think these do gooders have any interest in helping you out. They have an agenda that they will do anything to promote.

Nutritional information is easily deduced if you pay any attention to the food you eat.

I do not need outsiders to tell me what they consider to be good for me

I think you must have grown up in a country and with a government that is the epitome of the nanny state. I on the other hand grew up in a constitutional republic that stressed PERSONAL responsibility

Personal responsibility with the lack of information with which to base a personal choice is burying your head in the sand.

THE ONLY THING I'VE BEEN TRYING TO SAY IS THAT MORE NUTRITIONAL INFO IS GOOD FOR CONSUMERS.

I'll give you an example to see if you can somehow grasp what you are somehow incapable of grasping...

When I was younger, I used to really love Maier's cream filled donuts - http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110307162616AAK4OQG

I knew they were bad, but I still ate them. I ran track and was in sports 365 days a year. So they didn't stick, and were just bad food that I enjoyed. They came in a package of 6(maybe 8) in a box, and I would usually eat 2 at a time, sometimes more. ZERO nutritional info on them at all.

I knew they were bad, but they tasted sooooo good. But then low and behold, the nanny state forced companies to actually inform it's customers with nutritional info. Once I saw the contents of a serving size, I nearly threw up. One donut had as much saturated fat as THREE big macs.

BOOM!! Never ate another one again in my life. As a more informed consumer, I choose different bad foods to have occasionally. The impact to my body when seeking out bad food was greatly decreased - BECAUSE I HAD INFORMATION TO MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION!!!!

Again, you want to remain uninformed, and insult/ridicule those wanting to make an informed decision. Your position is mind-boggling, WHEN IT COMES TO CONSUMER CHOICE.

I suppose you get angry when you see that country of origin when it comes to products as well. How dare we be giving information to choose a product made in America versus China. DAMN THEM FOR GIVING US THAT INFORMATION!!!! DAMN NANNY STATE!!!

SMH

Heck if you are so dumb as to think that cream filled donuts do anything other than put fat on you you are beyond help. You don;t need nutritional information on the product you need an education in nutrition itself.

The fact that you operate on what feels good shows how limited you are. If a simple listing of ingredients is all it takes to make you throw up then I suggest your digestive system (as well as your logic system) is very minimal

Eggs were bad for us. Going to kill everybody. Oops. No longer.

Salt was bad. Going to kill everybody. Oops. No longer.

Ozone hole was killing people. We’re all going to die. Ban fluorocarbons! Oops. Hole still there.

Transfats? Same scare tactic.
