The U.K. is going to tax you to pay for IVF procedures in Pakistan? Really?

Tell David Cameron you'll never vote for him again!

I’m talking about a welfare state in general. They exist all over the western world. What color is the sky on your planet?

Dude. They're talking about couples in places like Brazil and India who have $260 of their own (or the equivalent in rupees) to pay for a reproductive lab project. (I would presume that would be people who also have money for curries, saris, iPods and laptops --- there are a hundred million such people in India alone.)

There was no word, no implication in the article about separating U.S. you and your U.S. money.

In any case, this is a morally tainted project from the git-go. The IVF process is inherently injurious no matter who does it. We'll see the objective harms of this now, and down the line, and into the world to come.

So no, I'm not for subsidizing it. I'm for banning it. And replacing it with real remedies for infertility, which will involve healing the fruitful embodied spouses, not breeding in a bottle.

I remember a news story some years ago...5-10 years ago, where a homeless couple sued in court to have invitro fertilization...I think it may have been in Massachusetts. They were claiming that they had a “right” to have children and that the state should pay for it. The initial ruling was in their favor but I’m not sure if the court order was ever carried out. ...or maybe it was carried out and the state did invitro on the homeless lady...who then probably argued that she had the right to an abortion...and then to compensation due to the mental anguish the pregnancy put her through. (s) (sort of sarcastic, but with the current state of affairs in the US, sadly, possibly true)

I get what you're saying. There's no "right" to have children.

There *is* a right to get married --- to a person who is willing to marry you, and eligible (of legal age, not a close blood relative, not already married to somebody else, mentally competent, and of the other sex) ---- and to engage in intrinsically procreative acts --- to bring into being children you can reasonably expect to raise and provide for.

And if God grants you children, all is well. And if not, not. Because it's not a right, it's a gift. Intrinsically tied to the acts of marriage and the gift of marriage.

Hence the word "Matrimony," by the way. Mothergift.
