New York Giants star receiver Victor Cruz tweeted an ominous prediction for George Zimmerman shortly after Zimmerman was acquitted of murder, and then quickly deleted the tweet. And later apologized for it.
The NFL star tweeted to his more than 334,000 follwers, Zimmerman doesnt last a year til the hood catches up to him. The tweet has since been deleted.
In a series of follow up tweets, the Giant said that his angry tweet was my initial interpretation of the reaction I was reading on twitter.I immediately realized my tweet was a mistake and I apologize.
Cruz was not the only football player to spark protest with a tweet about the Zimmerman trial verdict. Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White was also barraged after this tweet: All them jurors should go home tonight and kill themselves for letting a grown man get away with killing a kid
Rather than deleting the tweet after a round of protests from the twittersphere, White defended his words in another tweet an hour later:
It's crazy how people on twitter want me to get in trouble for a tweet that they are retweeting because they want something to happen thanks
This morning, though, White tweeted an apology: I understand my tweet last nite was extreme. I never meant for the people to do that. I was shocked and upset about the verdict. I am sorry.
Twitter saw a flood of passionate comments about the verdict. In the minutes following the announcement, tweets about the case shot to more than 47,800 TPM (tweets per minute) according to the ABC News Social Desk.
The total number of tweets about the verdict more than 4.5 million has surpassed the number of tweets about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December

They should be banned from the NFL so they can make their living as the garden variety thugs they really are.
In the middle of te 67 riot in Detroit, Willie Horton left the ball bark and stood on the roof of his car in his Tiger uniform. He didn’t yell “Kill whitey” he begged the people to stop destroying their city and go home.
Suspend both these thug idiots, Goddell. You are pissing off your paying customers. The ones that actually pay for tickets, Sunday Ticket and big things from your sponsors. Enoughs enough.
“I am sorry.”
A.k.a I don’t want to lose money. I need it for my mansion, 12 cars, 7 child support checks(all different baby-mamas), and my 20 pit bulls.
What companies have Cruz as a paid sponsor. I recall Campbells, but there are two or three others.
Living in the Atlanta area, I fired off a letter to the Falcons(for all it’s worth) stating I would never attend a Falcons game again as long as Roddy was a playa. I would also be busy persuading the rest of my family and friends to do the same.
Future anthropologists will identify “Tweets” as a marker of the demise of Western Civilization.
He only apologized after realizing that his little tweet went over like a fart in church.
As I said on another thread about Cruz, the wording sounded more like a comment than a threat. On a thread regarding thuggish misbehavior by law enforcement I said that if the behavior continued some LEOs may not come home from their shifts. Same deal, an observation, not a threat.
Suspend these POS’s Goddell
Translation: "My "Creepy Ass Cracker" agent called to tell me that I just endangered that fat Contract he negotiated and I needed to do some serious CYAs and Mea Culpas or the money train was gonna get derailed and I be out of a job."
The NFL should slap them with big fines. Then people should boycott the thug league.
” Willie Horton ?”
That gave me pause1 Had to check. I guess there are/were more than one Willie Horton.
My how times have changed. Now they would participate in the riots.
Their agents probably contacted them the minute they became aware of their idiotic responses on social media.
Pro football is nothing but a gang of steer thugs. It’s time to stop watching. Not that I watch—but why support this America-bashing sport?
Many whites have been fired for far less agregious comments, ie. Jimmy the Greek.
To many ugly personalities in professional sports these days. Organizations should clean up their act, but it isn’t until a player is lead away in cuffs that any action is taken. Too bad, but I know they won’t miss my money.
New NFL, AFL, and ABL mottos: “Our felons are meaner than your felons.”
I’m glad I don’t buy what these thugs are selling anymore.
Does Roddy White pack? What would he do if someone was doing some MMA ground and pound on him after being sucker punched in the nose? Would he ask for some ID to determine the perps age?
Punk *** punks.
Nor do I pay for their salaries by purchasing tickets to the games. That includes the NBA...
Immediate suspensions, without pay, for the entire NFL season are called for.
Question; Does your favorite sports celebrity act like a Bonobo monkey?..
** If so, you’re probably a democrat..
the owner is a pretty good guy (Home Depot owner Arthur Blank?). I hope he jumps White’s over rated sh!t.
I heard someone on TV say last night that Michael Vick was put in jail for killing dogs and Zimmerman walks free for killing a teenager. he then said that was evidence of racism in America. What a foolish comparison.
I stopped watching pro football when they fired Tom Landry.
I think twitter is populated by fools so these and other comments come as no surprise. I wish the people that make these lame comments would be more stand up and support their comments and not so quick to apologize if it should even be called that.
As much as I hate twitter, it does serve a purpose to expose these idiots and the funny thing is they are more than happy to make fools of themselves all on their own for everybody to see.
If certain obvious circumstances were reversed, social-agenda driven ESPN would be wall-to-wall coverage and commentary on what these guys said. At the very least they would be driven into public humiliation. Can you imagine how (again, with certain obvious circumstances reversed) NBA commissioner, the very liberal David Stern, would react, let alone Goodell. Stern would fine them at least and maybe suspend them.
I was a big fan of the Giants going back to the days of John Mendenhall. I quit watching the NFL after they wouldn’t let Rush in the club. Similar situation with the NBA and MLB over the years: thugs, spoiled millionaires and team destroying owners.
The absolute best sports entertainment?
Michie Stadium in October.
Apology given due to unexpected heat == not that believable...
NAH....”Tweets” are where we ferret out the idiots....you may be surprised the activism for and by Conservatives on Twitter...
Twitter: The bathroom wall of the internet.
Stopped watching the NFL about 6 or 7 years ago in large part because of brainless sports-millionaires like these.
Just think Paula Deen vs. these thugs.
Twitter: A place for stupid people to say things they really do mean, and then deny it later.
Look to me like evidence than most people like dogs better than teenagers, and I concur.
Perhaps someone realized that food stamps can’t be used to buy game tickets.
I’m done with the NFL.
I don’t care if the Giants win every game this season.
I’ll be doing something else.
“I hope he jumps Whites over rated sh!t.”
Me too. But I have also started contacting sponsors. I hope others thought to do the same. I kind of had a blonde moment until I saw another posters’ suggestion.
These people figured out that this would put the kibosh to any endorsement deals they had going. Sad excuses for human beings.
Somebody needs to take the cell phones away from these National Concussion League types. They aren’t right.
I’m switching over to college ball. I’ll save my Sundays for church only.
As I remember it Willie Horton was jailed and paid his debt to society. He turned out to be a real man.
Must have been a Rhodes scholar. /s
