Still no riots, why?
July 14, 2013 | vanity

Earlier I asked the question "Why no riots yet". I think I may have the answer. Most of the thugs who have been twitting and mouthing the hate, predictions, threats, etc., during the last two weeks are dependent upon the entititlements of the gubmint. That includes directions and orders. Since the gubmint has only said they are investigating the events about this incident, the thugs do not know what to do. Until Zero, or Sharpton, Jackson, or NAACP tells them to do something they are lost.

On a more grim note, why no investigation into the 11,000 murders that have occurred since the gangsta was shot? Many of those were infants and pre-teens. But no comment from Zero, Sharpton, Jackson, or the NAACP so no problem.

The Rodney King mess was more than a generation ago. There’s a whole new crop of rugrats out there, and because of the internet and social media they are far more politically aware than you think they are. They know it’s not worth it. The dumbest of the dumb might try something, but they’ll be a small minority and on their own. And everybody knows that the cops know who they are and where they live.
I saw an amusing post on Facebook: “Get over it. They’re just getting back at us for the O.J. Simpson verdict.”

No worries, everyone knows that 95.3% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

I think the usual suspects (Sharpton, Jackson) figured out some time ago this was a poor horse to hitch their wagon upon. It’s coming to light St. Skittles was nothing more than a street hood, and that’s not good PR for their side. Sure, they’re out today and last night making speeches, but their heart isn’t in it.

I had found similar black on black data on a CDC report via google. The 11,000 figure is pretty much right.

Simple reason; there was no video of the event. They got all wee-wee’ed up over Rodney King because it was a visceral, visual thing they could latch onto. The power of pictures.

Here? Nothing but text and court transcriptions, which don’t carry the same weight unless you actually sit yourself down and pore over the nitty-gritty details. The type of people capable of rioting over these sorts of things aren’t very suited for the heavy-lifting of becoming informed and knowledgeable about a court case, honestly.

Maybe people are smart enough to realize that the evidence of any wrongdoing was very weak. We mustn’t assume that everybody who is “told” or “encouraged” to riot...will actually riot. People can often see through things, especially when it is their bodies that are being “encouraged” to go rushing forward to the front lines of battle.

In days past, rioters had little to lose.

These days, owed in part to plenty of handouts of various types, those who would be expected to riot in the past have “more” to lose, thus they have less incentive to rock the boat.

IMO, that encompasses this situation, but there are other situations where people can be encouraged to generate counterproductive and pointless destruction with little more that ideological persuasion.

Basically this. This whole story is ginned up faux outrage created entirely by the media. The real story is who decided to gin this up and why.

There are too many blacks who know they'd done the same thing Zimmerman had done in his situation..

Oh wait.. The day is not over yet!

My thoughts is they are afraid of getting shot. Zimmerman just got acquitted and it stresses the fact that we have the right to defend ourselves.

Because a Not Guilty verdict was a wake-up call for a lot of people. It won’t change over night, but the eternal victims and their keepers just felt a little bit of a sting. Maybe Obummer will bring us closer - in a yin-yang type way.

Well the window of opportunity for rioting has pretty much closed on this particular event. I think a lot of would-be looters were caught flat-footed by the verdict last night - 9:30 on a Saturday night is very unusual for a verdict to come in. They certainly appeared to be caught with their pants down.

Of course, they would look rather silly coming out to riot now, nearly 24 hours after the fact. Day late and a dollar short. All for the good. I never did understand rioting as a form of protest anyhow. I personally think most looters don't care about the reason why, if they have an opportunity to smash windows and grab some free merchandise and get away with it, why any reason is as good as another. Whether the Bulls win (or lose) a basketball game or some court case gets decided, it's of no major importance to them.

For some reason, the song "Street Life" by The Crusaders was running through my head all day today. Now that song first came out in 1979, it's a jazzy little number with Randy Crawford doing vocals that made it into the Top 40. Some of you old-timers might remember it. Not sure why that tune popped into my head after all these years but I kind of like it.

The lack of legitimate grievances doesn’t provide much fuel for a fire.

In the late 60s there were still plenty of legitimate grievances to inspire anger among blacks. These days there are grievances but all Americans face them.

You could argue that a riot, with burning and all, in some parts of Detroit, would be a step in the right direction.

No riots cause Zimmerman was found innocent.
The vast majority of us white devils would have started rioting almost immediately had he been found guilty
As has been our methods.
