Monsanto drops GM crop plan in EU
BBC ^ | July 18, 2013

Posted on 07/20/2013 1:07:52 PM PDT by opentalk

Biotechnology giant Monsanto is scrapping plans to win approval to grow new types of genetically modified crops in the European Union.

It says the move is due to the lack of prospects for cultivation in the EU

... It comes just days after the EU began talks with the US on a wide-ranging trade deal, with agriculture likely to be one of the toughest issues.

The company said it would now concentrate on growing its conventional seeds business in Europe.

It will also look to get EU approval to import its genetically modified crop varieties from the US and South America into Europe

A week I work darn hard to grow here in Alaska! My wife makes a KILLER soup with Italian sausage and kale. Oh man, getting hungry just thinking about it!

Monsanto is a great American company. Proud to say it has fed my family for 30+ years.

Very trippy link there. Don’t think that HaShem would fit in well with the community, but boy could I bend their ear on alternative energy and building in Alaska. (total junkie on those subjects these days)

Lived a communal lifestyle in my early days... Don’t think I want to go back. Even a Moshav has too much to say about what color car I get to buy.

Alternative energy in Alaska? biomass and tidal. Alternative building materials would be SCIP construction. They will have real problems with a moving frost line in their hay bale construction. Double vapor barrier one on inside and one on outside the only way it will work.

Due to the extreme weather of Alaska the frost line will penetrate into the bale and cause frost formation and water retention from expiration of the people. When spring comes it releases the water to rot the hay.

Ouch, mold problems.

If you live close by pay them a visit. They have seven lifetimes experience growing Russian kale and have cleared pine forest to grow grains and veg

LOL.

You think people who have to bet their livelyhood on corn production would believe that picture?

Place a couple million on that picture being an accurate picture of corn production and everyone will be talking.

Monsanto doesn’t have a monopoly, they just happen to the the biggest player, contributing the most to reducing hunger around the world.

There are dozens, perhaps hundreds of other, lessor known, companies who also provide gmo seeds.

As with fracking, the train left the station years ago. The most the political left can do is to try and slow things down, then claim credit for bursting food bins when they get run over by the inevitable.

Cool they will soon be importing food from us.

They already import a lot of food from us.

As they increase their muzzie population (European population numbers are staganant) they'll need more from elsewhere, including us.

Good reason to grow your own, preserve it and buy fresh, buy local when you can. Monsanto happens to be the biggest player, and Michael Taylor bought Obozo’s FDA.. what happens in GMO villages should be burnt to the ground.
How bout those Honey bees?

If you can grow your own, more power to you, you should do that, but that method won’t feed the world. Get back to us when you grow enough to feed another hundred or two hundred people, which is what the American farm worker does.

As far a burning the GMO villages to the ground, you’re in with a very large group. There are a lot of people who would rather have those brown skinned people starve to death than have them eat cheap GMO wheat. That’s what has happened throughout history, until Monsanto came along.

So you won’t be lonely, but I do think you’re throwing in with a very cruel and heartless group.

One of the advantages of living long is that you get to see the same stories come round and round. I remember the attempt at panic during the early 70’s over the immediate pending death of the honeybee. I was younger then, and almost believed it. The story is back again 40 years later.

I don’t believe it now either, and neither should you.

I totally agree. Look what’s happened to organic crops polluted by Monsanto’s GMO seeds, and then Monsanto sues those farmers over patents.

The world has yet to be saved by Monsanto. Last I checked people are still starving to death. Whatever anybody wants to eat is their business, just like eating non-gmos is my business. Giving food, gmo or otherwise, to impoverished nations is keeping them impoverished. Until we cut them off, just like we need to cut off our own welfare folks, they will never have the desire to overthrow their oppressors and become productive countries with very little starvation. And the American farmer? They are welfare queens as well. Don’t glamorize a group of people that get paid my hard-earned money to keep fallow fields and dump milk down the drain. I’m including my own relatives in this! I’m appalled at all of the tax breaks they get. Any book they get to write off on thier taxes. My aunt has shelves of expensive cross stitch, cooking, holiday entertaining, etc. books and magazines. My mom only orders a couple of these a year because they are upwards of $25 each. What counted cross stitch Christmas stocking pattern books have to do with dairy farming I’ve no idea. This is no different than welfare queens having babies and then filing taxes to claim the child credit. If farmers can be productive on thier own but need gmos to do that then there you go, but let’s get them moving at full capacity before we start talking about American farmers and Monsanto saving the world.

What load? I notice that can’t refute the info, though. I’m not amused by you’re silliness. I’m a little tired from my garlic harvest today.

All that stuff you posted can be refuted.

I used to farm, have friends and relatives who still earn their living that way, so I know a bit more about that live, and the facts of it than you do.

The way it looks from your post though, you’re not going to be able to get past the imagined write-offs, welfare, etc of your farmer relatives. I’m not wasting my time trying to.

cannot say that I disagree with that statement. No levels..just renewed health and happiness free from chemically engineered “ca ca”. make your own decisions. Just don’t force us all, we now have a choice..your way.... there is no “highway”.
