House Speaker John Boehner reaffirmed that House Republicans planned to take a gradual, step by step approach to overhauling the countrys immigration system, but he didnt put the quest at the top of his list of legislative priorities for the year.
Speaking on CBSs Face the Nation, the Ohio Republican criticized the bipartisan Senate bill approved in June as both overly sweeping and lacking in sufficient border controls. House Republicans, he said, would try to tackle the problem in chunks.
In listing his top priorities for the rest of the year, Mr. Boehner cited deficit reduction, tax law changes and an effort to overhaul the countrys entitlement systems. He didnt mention the continuing push to tackle immigration.
The speaker repeatedly declined to say to say whether he would support a bill that provided a route to citizenship for the 11 million or so immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally, the primary sticking point between House Republicans and the Senate bill, which passed last month.
It is not about me, Mr. Boehner said. This is about allowing the House to work its will. He declined to predict what sort of immigration legislation would eventually reach the House floor, and said his only intention was to facilitate a process.

Does anyone believe any emanations from this creature with two Obamaholes?
Hey! That's sort of anti-asia...Never mind.
Yeah - just like he handled Obamacare!
Good....”chunks” are better flushed without blocking up the system.
Boehner’s agenda differs from Obama’s in form not substance, so who’s agenda is it?
Boehner MUST GO. Do the Republicans have any sense whatsoever? Are they of any value? Or are they soft-peddling salesmen for Obama?
Naahhh ... he’s letting us know ... Congress will vomit this POS out and obumbles will sign it.
Boehner makes me want to TOSS chunks.
Let the Dems and the media bellow all they want. Lead them on by saying you really want immigration reform, too. But never back down from the first thing that must happen: a safe, secure border that will prevent illegals from entering.
With all the time he spends tanning, he’s definitely a person of color.
No bill. No weasely chunks. How about do your jobs and honor your oath? Reform yourselves.
Quite a bit of hurling is done in chunks.
Boehner usually just blows, but this week he’ll be blowing chunks.
What a 100% worthless POS.
Why not just say *We're going to screw you, but will try not to do it too badly*.
They are going to Chunk us right out of our country.
Good idea... Let’s START with a bill that closes the border. If that doesn’t work, the second bill can deal with the things the first bill failed at...
Boner would love to hear from the American people. He can be reached at 202-224-3121; just ask for Boner’s office. Wanna bet he doesn’t want our opinions?
Why can’t Boehner promise to do something he can actually accomplish successfully, like step down as speaker and work at a gas station.
No one nationality should have priority, particularly Mexicans, who have gamed the system illegally.
> “But never back down from the first thing that must happen: a safe, secure border that will prevent illegals from entering.”
Don’t fall for that.
The word is out....any immigration bill and that means ANY IMMIGRATION BILL will be made into a Trojan horse once it comes back from the conference committee.
Even if the bill says one and only one thing, and that is to build a hundred foot high fence along the border from the Pacific Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico, replete with monitors, guards, lights, cameras, tunnel detectors and everything a security architect could dream up, even if a bill had only these things it would go to the House-Senate Conference Committee and come back for a vote on the House floor.
Once a bill comes back from the conference committee with the Trojan in it, there will be a vote on the House floor to pass it or defeat it. But it will only take 17 squishy RINOs to vote with all the dems to pass it. And passing it would result in 10 million new democrat voters.
What is holding up the vote now is the Hastert rule. The Hastert rule says a bill is voted on if and only if a majority of republicans approve to proceed with a vote. Boehner is honoring the Hastert rule only because he was put on notice that if he ignores the Hastert rule, he will be replaced as Speaker or there will be such a division in the GOP that the party would never again win another presidential election.
So the answer for our age, for our generation is NO BILL WHATSOEVER!
I personally would support a bill to reform immigration when and only when conservative majorities control both chambers of Congress and a conservative is elected as President.
