Would You Practice Polygamy If It Were Legal?
Slate ^ | Friday, July 26, 2013 | Faye Wang

No.

And not because of moral reasons, it's simply a matter of practicality. I've never seen a polygamous relationship in which every participant was happy and content. Because of my research into alternative lifestyles, I actually know a lot of people who are in polygamous relationships (there are support groups for that, you know). I don't think it is immoral, as long as all parties involved are consenting adults.

However in practice, such a relationship requires way too much energy to maintain, and one or two people are always left feeling unhappy, undervalued, not needed, and not loved. Human beings are selfish and possessive, especially when they're in love. Very few people are capable of sharing their loved ones with other people, even under the pretense that you receive love from the other person. This is especially true if the polygamous relationship is 1 male + multiple females or 1 female + multiple males. One will undoubtedly become the favorite, and the other will end up resentful and feeling depressed.

An ideal situation, which most polygamous relationships I knew were trying to achieve, is somewhat a "network" of love, instead of a pyramid. For example, in a relationship with one male and three females, if the love exists only between the male and each female, it's not going to work. It has to be male and female, and female and female, in other words, everyone needs to love everyone.

The same with all leftists, they refuse to live in the real world. Facts are old school. Feelings and desires is the new schools.

I might practice, but I wouldn’t turn pro.

I don't think it is immoral, as long as all parties involved are consenting adults.

Then why should the author care? The key word here is "consenting", i.e. they want to do it. Today's morality is based on the premise every human being of age has the wisdom and goodness of God and can therefore dictate what is good and bad. Funny that nothing is bad anymore (except for those that think that there are bad things).

On another point: interesting that the pro-gay marriage crowd is petrified of polygamy and is using the tactics of the traditional marriage proponents to bash the polygamists. Meet the new boss, etc.

“The penalty for polygamy is multiple mother-in-laws.”

Oh man - I never thought of that!

Bigamy: One wife too many.

Monogamy: See bigamy.

I would consider it if it were the traditional 1 guy, multiple girl situation.

But I find the idea of 1 girl and multiple guys completely repugnant.

But isn't this a moral reason?

Yes, but only if if they can all go to work all day while I play golf.

I never thought about it that way. Maybe I will change my mind in regards to this subject. :-)

Leaving people, usually women, “feeling unhappy, undervalued, not needed, and not loved” is exactly why it is immoral. Duh.
The TLC program “Sister Wives” claims to show a happy polygamous family, but at least two of those wives are very unhappy over the addition of wife number four, and that is evident just from catching glimpses of commercials for the program.

They are also NOT happy with the addition of number four. That is evident from watching 15 seconds of the ads for the program, with the sound muted.

If you have more than one spouse at a time you must make your own bed.
Standard beds are not built for threesomes.
This was taught in Boomer 101.

You know, there might be something in it for the women. Like, someone else could be the skinny one that works out all the time. I could be the funny one, who makes comfort food for dinner on my assigned nights.

The real problem? Jostling for MY kids to get what they need or want from Daddy’s money and time, in competition with the demands of the other wives’ kids. I could see a whole lot of drama going on about that.

Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Nope. It does not matter what man's law might say, God's model for marriage is one man and one woman. Two become one.

I was a good match for polygamy but would not practice it in marriage, even in high school I had established that a female going out with me would probably be one of two or occasionally, three, on the date and they were full “dates”.
