Krugman writes, "We need to build smarter, more compact population centers."

LOL!
This simple assclown Krugman would have been right at home in the Soviet Union writing up the next "Five Year Plan".

...Paul Krugman at the New York Times. Social mobility is low in both cities—meaning the poor are staying poor. Why? Well, a new study suggests that it might be because they're just too spread out. "Sprawl may be killing Horatio Alger."

LOL - yeah, and global warming... Liberals are shameless in the ways they use blacks.

The RAT solution is forcing affordable housing into every neighborhood. There is a battle going on in Westchester, New York right now. The county executive, a Republican, is fighting HUD on the level of Section 8 housing being foisted on one of the most upscale bedroom communities in the US.

I thought the aim of government planners was to separate residential and commercial areas.

Mission accomplished, right?

And now from the central planners comes “but we didn’t mean THAT!”

there may be jobs available somewhere, but they literally can't get there.

And I suppose that transit systems that have to spend 70% or more of their budget on retired union members who sit home on their arses has NOTHING to do with that, eh, Kruggy?

Nope. Just covert support for Agenda 21. Populations need to be locked up in urban areas and arcologies. Even if they don’t want to be...

I just discussed this article with my 16yo daughter. I explained that this was the second recent article I’d seen on relocating earners from the suburbs back to urban areas. Her response? “But why???” Because the social engineers think that the poor won’t be poor if they make the wager earners live closer to them. Her response? “That doesn’t make sense.” I explained that’s how the liberal mind works to which she replied ‘so they’re stupid?’

Out of the mouths of babes...

:: the American dream seems to be dying ::

Uhhh...Paul, that would be YOUR interpretation of the American Dream which, apparently, is “social mobility”.

Everyone else believes the American dream is self-determination.

Smart Growth = Leaving your tiny, dirty, and violent government-owned apartment to take the bus to your union job at the factory.

“Sprawl may be killing Horatio Alger.”

Horatio Alger stories are highly moralistic about what is right and wrong. If you do what is right, don’t lie, cheat or steal etc, you will eventually do well.

This professional Keynesian quack can always be expected to offer absurd rationalizations for taking away the value of our money, as well as the most basic of our liberties, in order to pursue a rationally indefensible, Leftwing social agenda.

The whole early history of European settlement in North America gives the lie to this ridiculous theory. See America Grounded On Experience & Reason.

Those who will not take up the argument on behalf of our traditional values, on behalf of our way of life; those who seek to appease the Paul Krugmans, as those who give lip service to the claimed grievances of other Leftist spokesmen; are all undermining the future of America in ways that are rapidly becoming irretrievable. There can be no moral justification for such appeasement of evil.

So lets round up all the people and make them live in government communes just like UN Agenda 21 wants us to.

It's more like "suburban sprawl."

Another factor regarding Detroit vs. Atlanta "sprawl" is North vs. South.

Much of the urban centers in the northeast date back to the settling of the nation, where roads still follow colonial township boundaries, are narrow and windy, and follow the contours of the Appalachian foothills.

In the south and southwest, the land is more flat, and the settling is newer, so the cities had the advantage of planning their designs and could build anywhere.

http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/architecture/2005/11/suburban_despair.single.html Interesting article on the reality of urban sprawl throughout history. Shocked to find it where it was but not surprised to see that they're still focused on fixing 'the problem'.

No doubt Krugman will be happy to be Obama’s Location Czar, telling everyone where to live. Meanwhile, he lives in a posh apartment guarded by guys with guns.

Some animals are more equal than others.

Just why the heck do these LIB morons think I moved to relatively remote Utah??????? To be close to them????? I am far away from feral urban losers as I could get. My hope is that they are too weak and lazy to cross hundreds of miles of desert to face resistance from my neighbors and I. Cry me a river for their being “stranded”. Good.
