Robert Mugabes party claimed a resounding victory in Zimbabwes general election today moments before his main rival accused him of monumental fraud.
The election had been hailed as a potential turning point in the nations troubled history as Mugabes long-time nemesis Morgan Tsvangirai again vowed to dethrone the 89-year-old tyrant after 33 years in power.
Releasing unofficial results early in Zimbabwe is illegal, and police had said on Wednesday they would arrest anybody who made premature claims about the result. But a senior source in Mugabes ZANU-PF party, who asked not to be named, crowed: Weve taken this election. Weve buried the MDC. We never had any doubt that we were going to win.

I saw a report on the BBC this morning and one of the opposition leaders said they really have no expectation of winning till Mugabe is in his grave.
The voter roll for this election came from 1985 and contained the names of two million dead people according to the opposition.
