Public information officers for the City of Seattle have been advised to stop using the terms "citizen" and "brown bag" -- as in brown-bag lunch -- saying they could be offensive to some city residents.
Elliott Bronstein of the Office for Civil Rights circulated the memo encouraging government employees to avoid using the potentially offensive terms.

And this is how the nazis manipulated language to make the German people more accepting of nazi ideals.
I am offended by people who get offended.
I wish I lived in Seattle just so I could have a t-shirt that says:
I am a citizen and I brown bag my lunch every day!
The stupid is strong is Seattle.
Must be white folk code words.
brown bag=black folks.
Citizen is just the next bourgeois!
One more reason that I am so darn glad that I am retired.
tall, dark and handsome
its clear as black and white...
to "gyp" and to "jew" someone down in price...
little white lies...
ride in on your white horse..
black as the ace of spades...
throw in the white flag...
okay ....on the count of 3, lets all WHINE...
However ‘dirt bag’ is still acceptable, and that’s what would get my vote concerning anyone who opted to take out ‘citizen’.
Bronstein’s “brown bag” story definitely sounds like an urban legend. If anyone here is a member in good standing at Snopes they should bring it up there. (And, yes, I know Snopes isn’t real popular here, but they have exposed a number of other African-American urban legends over the years....)
...needs to justify his job, so in a municipal "make-work" effort, Elliott creates an "issue" that requires his immediate attention.
The Language of the 3rd Reich was written by Victor Klemperer. In the book he details how the nazis manipulated the people through language.
Some may think that it can’t be very effective but just look at what has happened to the word “Militia” over the past 30 years. It used to conjure images of honor, duty, and patriotism. Today most people think racist hillbillies seeking to overthrow government or homicidal muslims.
Geez you couldn't make this stuff up.
There used to be a local civil rights agitator named Flamingo Brown. She’s busy complaining about the way Satan runs the place now.
In certain communities, she could have been a pink Flamingo.
America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi!
I wonder if “comrade” and “Worker” are also Offesive—I bet not.
All baked goods are henceforth to be called “Crackas”.
I mean, isn't it obvious that they want all white people gone?
Where “citizen” and “brown bag” are offensive and verboten: that is territory to be avoided by sane citizens.
So I guess that the public informatuion people will now give relases that say “people with things did stuff.”
Good thing we’ll get accurate non-offensive information.
You’re offended. They’re offended. And that means ‘what’ to me?
Guess they don’t like the term Johnny Lunch Bucket either.
Thanks for mentioning that book; now, I will have to find a copy.
putting that on my work calendar for lunch every day!
joke ‘em if they can’t take a f...
Victor Klemperer was the cousin of Werner Klemperer who played Col Klink on Hogan’s heroes and also cousin of composer Otto Klemperer.
I was listening to Glen Beck’s new online radio show the other day and he mentioned that “politically correct” or PC was coined from the Communist reprogramming camps. If you expressed ideas not in sinc with the current political regime’s line, you were not “politically correct” so you were taken to be corrected.
Funny that you mentioned that, because I was curious if he was related to Werner. I still get a kick out of Hogan’s Heroes.
Still okay if you’re wearing a Citizen watch and a hoodie and eating Skittles out of a brown bag, just before you snap your cap and attack someone. Thanks ConservativeStatement.
Political correctness? Nah.....STUPIDITY!
Talk about going wimpy! When will we wise up to evil and call on God again?
“Worker” is not fair to the welfare set! That must be expunged next!
Sack Lunch? I find that offensive.
Jesus wept, this kinda stuff makes me want to drink.
we need an address, I want to mail some brown bags to Seattle.
Id be willing to bet that citizen is some how seen as a taunt by legal citizens to illegals.
That is highly likely. I guess “trespassers” is probably verboten as well. So will the libs call it a “path to Americanship?” It really does get confusing with all these lib rules. I guess that’s why I don’t pay attention to them.
Elliott Bronstein and Seattle Mayor Michael McGinn are obscenities themselves, as well as Demonrats stealing oxygen in Seattle.
