Rep. Peter King says Al Qaeda threat is 'very specific' as US issues travel alert

The Al Qaeda threat that prompted the State Department to issue a worldwide travel alert and close down 21 embassies and consulates for the weekend is serious and 'very specific,' Rep. Peter King, chairman of the Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence, said Friday.

“We’re not certain exactly where something might happen but it’s very specific as to when and it’s also very specific as to the fact that it is going to happen, so we have to be on alert everywhere,” the New York Republican told WINS-AM.

The travel alert was the first of its kind since an announcement preceding the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It came as Washington prepared to close its embassies and consulates throughout the Muslim world this Sunday over security concerns.

U.S. officials have not offered many details on the nature of the threat, but apparently are taking it seriously.

A White House official said Friday night President Obama was being updated on "a potential threat occurring in or emanating from the Arabian Peninsula."

Question: When we close down embassies, what happens to the secure files in those embassies? Are they moved to other, more secure locations?

I have a fun idea. How about we hold the Saudis responsible and put them on notice. Any attack, and we nuke mecca. This Islamic crap needs to stop, and its all tracing back ultimately to them.

So we announce on a Friday that we’re closing embassies on Sunday?

Imagine the shock on the terrorists’ faces when they go to attack our embassies on Sunday afternoon and find out they’re all closed...

The solution is obvious, the NSA needs to collect even MORE data on Americans!

BS There is no Al Qaeda. Obama said so.

Meantime he is sending them weapons in Syria, so they can kill Christians.

It does smack of 'convenience'.

What better way to 'justify' the use of spying/listening in/reading emails, etc., and chance the conversation/news headlines?

Oh, look! A shiny new distraction!

Peter King is a worthless gasbag who makes a grand living off of the “War on Terror”.

Let me get this straight... the jug-eared douchebag declared that Al Qaeda “has been decimated” and then tells our about 20% of our embassies to close because of potential attacks by the same terrorist group. Yeah, that makes sense.

Fellow FReepers...That is called a "CYOA" line. A distraction. the 4th will be Laylat al-Qadr the "Night of Destiny, Night of Power, Night of Value, the Night of Decree or Night of Measures." A day of Judgment, their idea of the book of Revelations.

4 Aug believed to be the date that the Child molester Muhammad revealed the original Quran. It a Shia thing the Sunnis are not into it...BTW al Qaeda are Sunni

I am taking a wait and see approach, if nothing happens, it was an another attempt by the Administration to divert attention away from Benghazi, aka that phony scandal

"The solution is obvious, the NSA needs to collect even MORE data on Americans!"

That was my first thought when I saw King becoming the public face/salesman for this latest warning. Whether or not anything happens, we'll all be told how critical it is for the NSA to continue its data collection of domestic communications, and anyone who opposes it is unwittingly supporting the terrorists.

US (Morons in charge): “We are going to shut down the embassies on Sunday because there is a terrorist threat”

Terrorists (not as stupid as our guys, apparently): “Hey guys, let’s sleep in on Sunday. We’ll go Monday, OK?”

If the threat is so specific, why is the response so general?
Methinks, as others have opined, that this is a ruse to convince the public that spying programs are a necessity.

Boss: OK

Me: (Monday morning) Nothing happened Sunday, YAY ME!

Boss: here’s some overtime pay

Me: (to all my friend) “I just got paid for sleeping in sunday”
