Get a public employee mad for doing a slow job and the cops get called.

I'm a shuttle driver for a hotel near the DFW airport, and in the last year a building program of making new toll plazas on the north and south end has taken place and part of this program has been to build very narrow concrete barriers to enter and exit the DFW airport.

The concrete barrier lanes, makes one feel one is entering or leaving a fortress compound, such as the Berlin Wall. There is only one wide lane for 22 passenger hotel shuttles or semi's, and this lane is not toll tag only meaning that any car may go in the lane, discriminating against vehicles that go into the airport with regularity with a toll tag, such as the vehicle I drive, because there is not an exclusive lane for wide vehicles with Texas toll tags.

I was departing the DFW airport and got caught, in which I believe was a car not having a ticket to depart in the wide lane. I waited four minutes and started to honk to get attention, so that traffic could move, I kept honking, and honking, because I knew I was the only driver on duty for the hotel. I put my vehicle in park, and got of the vehicle, to push my protest of the delay with no avail.

Finally after 12 minutes of waiting the red minivan went through, and I was notified by my radio and by my supervisor that I had been honking and had gotten out of the vehicle to see what was going on in 104 degree heat.

Anyway the DFW toll plaza is a total cluster youknowwhat. It is like a mini Berlin wall and is filled with recent immigrant employees, with rudimentary English, mostly from Africa and the Asian sub-continent.

The place is run by a man named Dean Ahmed, who has no idea about customer service. I have talked to him on the phone, he is your typical arrogant democrat.

Also, by my honking of the bad customer service, I was called into the DFW police who called my hotel, and now I have to suffer the HR director saying, "you don't honk", while she tells us, "to give the best service possible".

I wonder what she will say and look like, when I say,"Shouldn't the DFW parking authority give me the same."

Yeah and they called the cops on me, when I told them they were doing a bad job.

Actually the horn of your vehicle is to tell people look I am here.

I spent just over 2 years of Army life in Panama where the drivers there have one hand on the steering wheel and the other on the horn.......LOL!

Did the horn-blowing speed things up? Probably not.

I will gently tap the horn if someone has not noticed a light has changed. But blaring at them because they’re having a problem is just crude.

You ever been to San Francisco? Up there they issue you a gas peddle, a brake, and a horn. Steering wheel optional.

If they hit the brake more than the horn up there, I’ll be surprised.

Everyone honks, and honks, and honks, and honks...

Just returned from a 2 week trip to Kolkata (Calcutta). Anyone who is bothered by horns being honked in this country needs to spend 5 minutes in a speeding taxi in downtown Koltata!!

I once had a date in Calcutta, but the gal waited in Kolkata. I could write a song about it!

I live/work in NYC and so I've got a pedestrian horn (my mouth). While pedestrians are supposed to have the right of way, the cars always try cutting around you while you are crossing, and once in a while some idiot will pull right up to you and honk - expecting that it will intimidate you into crossing the street faster so he can go.

When that happens, I stop in my tracks, turn toward him, spread my arms wide and yell "HOOOOONNNNK"!

And once (when I was younger, and happened to be wearing steel-toed shoes at the time) I kicked the back side panel of a car that had just cut me off while closing the street and came to close for comfort. To his credit, he did stop half a block away (maybe he thought he hit me), so I just looked back at his car and yelled "YEAH, I KICKED YOUR CAR" - at which point he drove off.

NYC traffic cops aren't much better - they seem more interested in moving traffic along then in the safety of the public. I frequently see traffic cops waive a line of cars waiting to make a left turn onto the Manhattan bridge while streams of people are still in the process of trying to get across. And when I was one of them, I used my pedestrian "HONK" at that idiot cop - like you said, it meant "Hey, I am here". I got a funny look from the cop - but I think she got the message.

Government employees stick together...Ya look at one of these animal control people the wrong way, and they’ll call the cops too...Cops will nearly always back their fellow government employee buddies.

Awesome. So they have horns instead of turn signals?

One of my EX’s parents went there about 20 years ago.
Said it was interesting but didn’t care for the dead
lying in the street.

You follow the rules of your employer. Even then, you will be wrong. My personnel file is full of those type of write ups. I still get paid. So, f’em.

I live just north of DFW and I truly understand the BS that goes along with the toll plaza. Incompetents and, I swear, most are not able to speak English. They are rude, too.

Did you find out, why they were so darn slow? Might have been following instructions from the boss.

"I do not disagree with your complaint. I just pointed out that the reason to have a horn is to warn someone of impending danger not to complain that one is in a long slow line."

Yes, you start shooting if you want the line to move! ;-)

Go to DFWairport.com and search for Dean Ahmed.

He's a government guy making $200.00o a year, while making our lives hell.
