I'm a shuttle driver for a hotel near the DFW airport, and in the last year a building program of making new toll plazas on the north and south end has taken place and part of this program has been to build very narrow concrete barriers to enter and exit the DFW airport.
The concrete barrier lanes, makes one feel one is entering or leaving a fortress compound, such as the Berlin Wall. There is only one wide lane for 22 passenger hotel shuttles or semi's, and this lane is not toll tag only meaning that any car may go in the lane, discriminating against vehicles that go into the airport with regularity with a toll tag, such as the vehicle I drive, because there is not an exclusive lane for wide vehicles with Texas toll tags.
I was departing the DFW airport and got caught, in which I believe was a car not having a ticket to depart in the wide lane. I waited four minutes and started to honk to get attention, so that traffic could move, I kept honking, and honking, because I knew I was the only driver on duty for the hotel. I put my vehicle in park, and got of the vehicle, to push my protest of the delay with no avail.
Finally after 12 minutes of waiting the red minivan went through, and I was notified by my radio and by my supervisor that I had been honking and had gotten out of the vehicle to see what was going on in 104 degree heat.
Anyway the DFW toll plaza is a total cluster youknowwhat. It is like a mini Berlin wall and is filled with recent immigrant employees, with rudimentary English, mostly from Africa and the Asian sub-continent.
The place is run by a man named Dean Ahmed, who has no idea about customer service. I have talked to him on the phone, he is your typical arrogant democrat.
Also, by my honking of the bad customer service, I was called into the DFW police who called my hotel, and now I have to suffer the HR director saying, "you don't honk", while she tells us, "to give the best service possible".
I wonder what she will say and look like, when I say,"Shouldn't the DFW parking authority give me the same."
Apropos of nothing, I flew into DFW last week and stayed in Fort Worth for several days. Very impressed with that City. I was surprised. I don’t know why.
Actually the horn of your vehicle is to tell people look I am here. Despite how many people use it, it is not a device to use for a complaint. Inuring people to the sound of a horn by using it to complain makes everyone less safe.

I do not disagree with your complaint. I just pointed out that the reason to have a horn is to warn someone of impending danger not to complain that one is in a long slow line.

When I commuted to work by car, it took an hour and 20 minutes to get there in the morning traffic, a real bad commute most days, until I started honking every chance I had and then noticed an improvement - now it only took 80 minutes!
I don’t know what idiot designed the new toll lanes. You can barely get a compact car through there. But at least the airport isn’t as corrupt as DART.
And they are completely random as to which lanes are tolltag only, which are mixed, and they always throw open one or two non-tolltag lanes just to mess everyone up, with small signage that can’t be read until you are too close to move over more than about one lane.
And I didn’t think they could get the funnel any more fouled up than the original design, but TxDot proved me wrong on that.

I think you misunderstood the post (or else I did.)
I believe this is what was intended: The horn is for warning people of a hazard (such as “I am here and it looks like you don’t see me”.) It is not the appropriate means for you to register your complaint for the slow service, and using it for that purpose conditions people to ignore actual hazards because they assume it’s just an impatient driver, not an actual hazard. That was my interpretation of the post, and if that is what was meant, I agree with it.

When I lived in Dallas for 12 years and flew a lot, I always appreciated you drivers moving quickly because it got me home quickly. To hell with the other posters and to hell with those idiot immigrants checking my ID at security. As if a woman wearing a burqa checking IDs at the security line is someone I trust.
