GOP lawmaker: House has votes to impeach Obama ‘tomorrow’ By Blake Neff - 08/12/13 01:37 PM ET

GOP Rep. Blake Farenthold (Texas) said House Republicans have enough votes to impeach President Obama, but warned the effort to remove him from office would be unsuccessful and could damage the country.

“If we were to impeach the president tomorrow, you could probably get the votes in the House of Representatives to do it,” Farenthold said at an Aug. 10 town-hall meeting.

In a video of the event, Farenthold is shown responding to a constituent who asked if he would support an investigation into whether Obama forged his birth certificate.

Farenthold initially expressed regret that Congress did not more closely examine Obama’s eligibility for the presidency during the 2008 campaign, and then sought to explain why Republicans had not pursued impeachment.

The Texas lawmaker said the country would be harmed if the House voted to impeach Obama but the Democratic-controlled Senate failed to remove him from office.

“What message do we send to America if we impeach Obama and he gets away with what he’s impeached for and is found innocent?” Farenthold said.

Farenthold pointed to the failed effort to remove then-President Clinton from office in 1998.

“As a result of impeaching President Clinton, we’ve redefined what sex is to a lot of our young people, and we’ve said that it’s OK to lie to Congress,” warned Farenthold.

Farenthold is the latest GOP lawmaker to draw attention for questioning the president’s citizenship.

Last week, Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) told a constituent that he had doubts about the president’s citizenship but that a probe into the matter was not politically possible.

Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) told a constituent on Aug. 3 that he would support a bill calling for an investigation into whether Obama’s birth certificate was forged.

As I’ve been saying, the only way Obama will be impeached is if the Democrats are the ones calling for it. Without Democrat support and a prayer of getting a conviction in the Senate, it’s a total non-starter.

well, if you guys have the votes to impeach him...why not at least use those votes to reverse some of the harm of the last 4 years (like, defund and then repeal O-care... for starters...so the American economy can start adding some jobs again... and there are several more key measures you could pass....if, as you say, you have the votes....)
USE THEM!
We are all worried sick the R party is just going to keep rolling over and playing ded, or worse...continue enabling the damage...

NO ONE is gonna have the sack to push it “forward” so there will be no “progress” on that front. After all, it would be racist and only being done because he’s black and all of those kkk (demokkrats if truth be known) members are the only ones that want it. Never happen. Even after he’s out of office and the true depth of what’s been done to the country is brought to light, he’ll still be THE ONE! Sad commentary on where this country has gone.

I couldn’t agree more. The GOP is a loose confederation of politicians with a single goal, to keep their place at the public trough.

No ethics, no morals, no guiding principles, simply self interest as their compass.

Time to start over.

This is one of the reasons why the midterm elections are crucial.

Tough to win with 0bama allowing 'would be Democrat voters' pouring in across our southern border, and also why Eric Holder has started a push to empty our prisons of drug offenders.

It's all about building the Democrat voter base for midterms and 2016. Every illegal that Obama allows across our border is one step closer to ensuring he never gets removed from office.

As a chess move, I like it. However, I wish I could believe it is more than just a clever chess move.

“As a result of impeaching President Clinton, we’ve redefined what sex is to a lot of our young people, and we’ve said that it’s OK to lie to Congress,” warned Farenthold.

That, Farenthold, is a pathetic conclusion coming from a Texas man (and please read into that whatever you will, you won't be wrong).

The failure of Clinton's trial in the Senate defined clearly for thinking Americans just what the elites in the Democrat party stand for, and the price they are willing to pay in terns of honor and allegiance to the laws, to further their agenda.

And, since the trial plan was watered down by Rinos for strictly political reasons (they did not want Gore to occupy the Oval Office pending the next election) - it also demonstrated to the rest of America the danger of electing Rino's

And as we all know about the Democrats, a video of Obozo committing a homicide would be insufficient motive for them to convict on impeachment.

They are as guilty as he is of criminal behavior.

And so it goes in the world’s largest banana republic.

There was a time when I still had hope that we could rally the Republicans in congress to defend the Constitution before it was too late. I no longer have that hope. The only point I am still unsure on is whether we go with a bang or whimper.

Let's be realistic here. In 1999, the Democrats knew that Clinton had, in fact, committed perjury before a federal judge and that perjury was, indeed, a "high crime and misdemeanor".

Yet, they voted unanimously to acquit. Democrats are Democrats...and they will never vote to remove a Democrat President.

Period.

A judicial determination of ineligibility results in removal from office, there is no role for the Legislative branch.

A House of Representative determination of ineligibility results in removal from office, there is no role for the Senate: they can not impeach a person who is not President.

Article II does not distinguish between ineligibility prior to an election or after, a person failing to meet the requirements is at all times legally disqualified.

No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States. U.S. Const. art. II, § 1, cl 5.

Article II does not state “eligible to election”, it explicitly commands that an ineligible person shall not be President.

Of for goodness' sake, have Republicans learned nothing from their past?

Impeachment is a political, and not a legal process. Sure, it's prescribed in the Constitution, but the move doesn't play well when a President has the support of half the country.

I'm not saying Obama isn't free of impeachment charges, but you've got to play this out in the presses; you've got to establish an impeachment-worthy case based on solid evidence. You need periodicals like Time and Newsweek with breathless headlines, and talking heads on CNN and MSNBC nodding in agreement. You DO need Democrats on-board, including at least a few in the Senate.

Unless you're prepared to orchestrate all this, you're DIW...dead in the water.

It works to Obama’s advantage if the HOR votes to impeach him. He’s lost a lot of his base with drones, NSA spying, labelling Snowden a traitor. If the HOR votes to impeach, Obama’s storm troopers will use that to rally the base and get their minds off all the freedoms we’ve lost.
