I BELONG TO THE STUPID PARTY
boblonsberry.com ^ | 08/17/13 | Bob Lonsberry

I belong to the stupid party.

I’m a Republican.

We specialize in self-destruction.

The latest example is the recent decision by the Republican National Committee to ban CNN and NBC from covering any debates during the next GOP presidential primaries.

Somehow, in head-up-your-butt land, that makes sense. But out here, in the real world, it’s insane.

And petty, and one more sign that the people running this party are, in scientific terms, frigging idiots.

Here’s the story.

Apparently there is this she-devil named Hillary Clinton who wants to run for president. She’s the one who said we didn’t need more security in Benghazi. She’s the secretary of State who oversaw the greatest reversals of American influence abroad in modern history.

And she’s running for whatever you call a woman president.

And CNN and NBC want to do documentaries or movies or something about her.

They being the liberal media and she being their god, it’s pretty likely the documentaries and movies will be fawning propaganda pieces.

And this has ticked off the morons-in-chief atop my party. So they’ve decided to cut off their nose to spite their face.

They’ve forbad these two networks to cover our presidential primary debates.

Holy mother of what the hell are they thinking.

Let’s take this step by step.

CNN and NBC want to make documentaries and movies about Hillary. I think that’s called freedom of the press. The documentaries and movies will be slanted to make Hillary look good, because of the political bias of CNN and NBS. I still think that’s called freedom of the press.

To me, it is incomprehensible that a party so committed to the Constitution should get its panties in such a bunch because someone else exercises constitutional liberties.

Further, who actually cares what kind of puff piece somebody does on an opposing candidate? Don’t you win elections by having a candidate and a philosophy of your own which are preferred by the people? And in the course of a campaign aren’t there a lot of media products and opinions going every which way?

Isn’t that part of living in, uh, America?

And isn’t it kind of embarrassing to get worked up over it? Doesn’t that bespeak a certain shrillness and immaturity?

Conclusion 1: The Republican Party should ignore the programming decisions of NBC and CNN.

Now, to the debates.

Why do you have debates?

To expose your candidates and principles to the electorate.

How do you expose your candidates and principles to the electorate?

By putting them on TV.

What is it NBC and CNN do again?

Put things on TV.

And you told them they couldn’t put your candidates and principles on TV? And you did this to punish THEM?

Conclusion 2: I belong to the stupid party.

Put another way, how much does a one-minute political commercial cost? In rough terms, it’s about a gazillion dollars. In a televised debate, networks are giving you a couple of hours of free time. Multiply 120 by a gazillion and you get an idea of the value of that.

And the RNC just said it doesn’t want that.

To punish the commie-lib networks.

How do networks make money? By selling advertisements. How many advertisements are there in a televised debate. None. How much money does a network make off a debate. None. If you ban them from the debate, what will they broadcast? Something with commercials, which will make them a lot of money.

So, if you ban NBC and CNN from covering your debate, you lose airtime and they make money.

And you think this punishes them.

Probably, they’ll run their Hillary shows opposite your debate and draw a bigger audience.

Or you might find that in swatting two networks you have angered them all. Let’s say at their next socialist conspiracy meeting all the other alphabet networks decide to stand in solidarity with CNN and NBC. Say they call it journalistic integrity and declare that if all reporters aren’t welcome, no reporters will come. That if one networks is banned, all networks will boycott.

At that point, you are officially screwed.

And by “you,” I mean America.

Because as stupid as the people in charge of the Republican Party are, the principles of the Republican Party are this country’s only chance. This isn’t about winning elections, it’s about saving the country.

And you can’t do that if you let yourself be drawn into asinine fights over who broadcasts what.

Preach liberty, accountability and small government. Campaign for freedom and against the EBT. Stand for America and its founding documents. Raise Liberty’s torch high again.

And try not to be a frigging idiot.

That’s the main problem with Obama’s evil regime, otherwise known as the central socialist government.

There’s such an overabundance of a-sholes that the homosexuals are like bees after honey.

I totally agree.. Just because the Idiots (Speaking RINO here) were smart enough to not support the LSM, has NOTHING to do with ‘FREE SPEECH’.. Just like any of us can boycott any business..

Never heard of this guy ‘Bob’ until this article, but what he is saying tells me all I need to know.. he is ‘one of them, and not one of us’.

Debates? WHAT debates?! :/

Between (Hopefully Conserv) Repub and a Dem: Softball to Dem, Controversial to Repub..

Between Repub Candidates: Anything that will start infighting (moral/social/financial issues).. known disagreements or differences of opinion/moral values.

There are only two sides to this issue. You (the general ‘you’) either want RINOS in power or you do not.

When people support RINOS they do exactly that. They cannot support RINOS today and then excuse them this afternoon. That goes for talk show hosts, Heros of the right, average joes or Freepers...who damn well ought to be screaming the loudest AGAINST all manner of RINOism.

But we don’t see that. All of the above regularly come up with excuses about how we have to compromise our way into irrelevance and REALLY scream about anyone saying No friggin way.

Two sides. Side of the RINOS or Side of the Conservatives. People need to pick one and go with it.

My First lady is thinking about changing her voter registration because of 0bamacare. Think about that for a second...

So far, I don't come under 0bamacare because I'm a Vet...

Oh, the First lady is not going to comply.

You, IRS, you just read that right? In the fwiw department (which FReepers can attest), she is well armed and well practiced.

Not sure how this topic ended up on this thread, but okay.

I do see where your friend (C. Edmund Wright) on the other thread, got the idea that you see things in absolute binary. On/off. Yes/No.

Quantum physics shows us that there is On/Off and Maybe. And there are infinite levels of Maybe.

I agree we cannot give Concessions1 in the Liberal's favor, during negotiations with Democrats, nor can we engage in Unequal Compromises2 in the Liberal's favor. However, I suggest that we *must* engage in one of three things: Compromises3, Concessions1 in the Conservative's favor, or Unequal Compromises2 in the Conservative's favor.

  1. 'Concession': To mean coming to terms with your opponent in a way that involves you abandoning some or all of your core requirement(s) with no similar abandonment by your opponent.
  2. 'Unequal Compromise': To mean coming to terms with your opponent in a way that does not involve either party abandoning their core requirement(s), however, one party makes few or no concessions on their less-important requirements.
  3. Compromise': To mean coming to terms with your opponent in a way that does not involve either party abandoning their core requirement(s), and in a manner in which both sides concede equal amounts of less-important requirements.

When our opponents see things and more importantly, operate in binary, compromise in any form means toy compromise while they do not.

Between rational people working toward a common end, sure. Compromise is currency. Between people who one is all or nothing, you either match them or lose ground. And next negotiation you lose a little more et all. That is incrementalism and that is why RINOs and liberals win against conservatives regularly. We compromise and meet their demands. They never do.

Perhaps someone is assuming that people who are not interested in the GOP primaries will watch them on CNN or NBC because there is nothing else to watch on tv...

I however assume that those who tune in to watch the debates will do so because they have an interest...And since all who have an interest in the GOP debates also have access to Fox, they will tune in to Fox to watch the primary debates...

I don’t buy this guy’s rant...

Splain please — I am a vet too. Pre-Vietnam, does that count?

Or are you a doctor of dogs, cows and cats?

Good afternoon.

Yes. I am a Vietnam era veteran.

Unfortunately, I read the entire bill. Only thing that applies to us is "shall report," by the VA and HHS. Nothing else (so far) pertains to us.

“Several (a lot, actually) on FR advocate that talkshow hosts, like Rush, Hannity, Levin should moderate the debates.

I have great doubt that they would be that wonderful as debate moderators. I have heard too many of them, too many times, literally melt in fascination and awe when prominent politician figures show up on their programs to be interviewed. Those hosts turn into junior high school giddy little girls, guffawing at the being the presence of greatness.”

Somebody finally NAILED this. They choke.
