If social media sites target teenagers to join in the first place, why should they not be held accountable when they are used as vehicles for malice, asks Charlotte Lytton.
Why did photos of a teenage girl performing oral sex on a boy in a field become the second worldwide trending topic on Twitter on Monday? And why were there endless jokes, insults and disapprobation slung her way, and not at the boy concerned?
The incident happened during an Eminem concert at Slane Castle in Ireland. And immediately the girl was branded a slut online with hashtags: 'slanegirl' and 'slaneslut' fast becoming trends.
When it comes to online safety, social media is repeatedly and unrepentantly failing teenagers. ...
A teenage girl giving someone a bl-w job is not shocking standing by and taking photos before posting them to millions of people is ...

They would both be brave heroes.
The classic definition generally refers to the server, and not to the recipient.
how long before she testifies in front of a congressional panel demanding federal money for free contraceptive coverage?
neither, gays are protected classes and gay sex is beautiful and normal. you homophobe.
oh yeah, /s
Billy Ray Cyrus must be so proud of his little girl, and so happy that he helped launch her career in Hollyweird.
I don't honestly think "social media" are the problem here. A medium is, after all, a means of communicating something between a willing sender and a willing recipient. It's the "willing" part that's the problem.
I once got into a huge flame war on FR over a situation where a girl got drunk at a frat party, went 95% of the way with a fellow, then asked him to stop, and got date-raped when the lad couldn't stop himself for the last 5%.
During this brouhaha, I told the angry ladies on FR that while a crime was committed, had it been my daughter in that case I would still chew her out for getting in that situation in the first place.
This situation isn't even close to that. I have a feeling that she would've been proud if the twitter commentary had called her a hottie instead of a sl-t.
And therein lies the problem, my dear Watson.
Oh, puh-lease! This generation did not invent sex. Get over it. The very same sort of public sex and nudity went on back in the 60s, after the pill became available. The baby boomers rebelling against the mores of the more conservative war generation. Two generations before that, hedonism ruled in the 1920s, when women’s liberation movement scored its big victory and decided that free sex was the next step. College students in the 20s engaged in the same drunken orgies you’ll find on campuses today. No doubt they were not happy about their conservative parents’ morals.
Go two generations before that and you’ll hit the civil war, which probably prevented a hedonistic decade (at least, I haven’t heard of one at that time). Barring exceptional circumstances, the conservative-liberal oscillations seem to go on, with each generation rebelling against its parents. This most certainly was so in ancient Greece, and before that in Egypt. Ancient egyptian women were quite adept at making sexy clothing.
So please stop pretending you’re the first to discover conservative values, or that today’s teenagers are in any way exceptional. The only real difference today is that pictures of everything get published. In ancient Egypt all they had was gossip. They survived, and so shall we.
Indeed, the intent counts while the act is less reproachable. Plenty of “supposedly clean” people out there whoring themselves to government, voting in denunciation ways.
“Closest I’ve come was walking my young children through a park and surprising a couple who had parked their van in the woods to do the nasty.
All I saw was the woman hop out in a trenchcoat and run away while the guy drove off. “
A group of us surprised the heck out a couple. They were parked along this deserted road while doing stuff outside the car. Well, out of the woods pops 8 mountain bikers on a trail right next to the car. I never saw two people run like that half clothed.
No savagery is not old. What is new is that the recent salvation from savagery is now spit upon. People do not have the mental intellectual fortitude to cope with modern science. Instead of seeing production as a means to coordinate with growing families, the savages are seeing opportunities to go the KFC chicken battery orgy way. Concerts are a deviancy of industrialized orgy and sex. What used to be amateurish and local is now going professional. The sluts take themselves very seriously, hence the feminists’ condescension towards conservative values which look amateurish.
Ok, so how many generations ago did people start filming their teen sex-acts and placing them on an internationally accessible network where everyone else can see you doing it?
Put up 10 fingers. Now take them all down.
Nothing past generations did had the ability to “go viral” past your school, maybe your small town. Now these stupid kids have people all over the world talking about it because they cant control themselves at the amounts that may look non-existent to you today, but were real back then, despite those examples.
Yeah, the ‘viral’ thing is the diff. now with all of the cameras/internet/social media etc. etc. I’ll bet that the dumb broad barely got the kid’s load gulped before some old monk way up in a cave in Tibet was reading about it...
Seems to me that you agree with most of the rest of us. She did a sex act in public, it brought her either pleasure or some perverse kind of fun. So the “puh-leeze” comments should be directed at the randy gal — don’t be so sensitive when your public acts become public.
This sordid incident is being blamed on social media and the availability of personal video devices, but consider the threefold sequence of events:
1. Gal decides to engage in consensual sex act in public.
2. Nearby guys hoot and holler, and some film it to show their buddies how rad the Eminem concert was.
3. A couple more decide to post it on social media.
4. The usual trolls on social media come out and start calling the girl a slut.
The only thing out of the ordinary here was 1), the public sex act. If it’s not done in public, numbers 2) through 4) never happen.
Recall that curly headed kid they used for propaganda purposes years ago?
This is the next kid...
I would say so
