The White House announced on Thursday that it intends to ban almost all re-imports of military surplus firearms to private entities through executive order, which would effectively shut down the 110-year-old Civilian Marksmanship Program.
In a Fact Sheet published on Whitehouse.gov today referencing the upcoming executive order the ban on importing military weapons is designed to keep military-grade firearms off our streets. Exceptions for import may be allowed for museums.
The CMP tightly controls the importation of obsolete military weapons. The program was created by the U.S. Congress as part of the 1903 War Department Appropriations Act with the purpose of allowing civilians to hone their marksmanship skills, should they later be called into military service.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Yeah, because CMP firearms are devastating the inner city. I despise these asshats.
He can only do this if congress allows it. Throw his EO in the trash where it belongs.
Yeah, I’m sure there are lots of M1 Garands and M1 Carbines in the hands of gang members.
Kicking myself in the arse for never getting that Garand.
I’m a bit concerned of a risk that our Imperial ‘Resident’s trashing the Constitution may trigger a pendulum swing in the other direction, handicapping the office for when we get a Real President. The net effect is 0’ getting away with murder, and then, say, a President Cruz would lack power to undo and retract the damage.
Of course, something had to replace all the Springfields and Krags... not to mention those evil Mossberg 44US target rifles.
I’m surprised they didn’t have that waiting for him to sign after his first inauguration in 2009.
Congress needs to take him to court for legislating through EO.
Congress needs to impeach him now. Bring it to a vote just before the election, and then throw it to the Senate as the new Senate comes in.
Exactly. I own a Garand, carbine and a 1903 A 3. Gee, does that make me an evil gun owner?
The very devil incarnate. But with good taste.
If Bush did just one percent of what Obama is doing .... where’s the MSM outrage of Constitutional rights being usurped by this moron?
NRA lawsuit in 3.....2.....1..... Not on our watch Erkel !
Stay safe Slim !
We must have been posting this at nearly the exact same time. LOL!
Does he have the authority to do this?
Of course. He destroys all worthwhile things and foists on us all things perverse and useless.
Hey Buddy! I don’t think I’m driving the rocket fast enough, I’m getting over 25 mpg!
My military 30-06 Springfield rifle converted into a hunting weapon is problematic to these people? To a deer or moose, maybe.
Well, except for Federal, state & local law enforcement Brute Squads. They NEED military-grade firearms on our streets.
I'm not sure why - they must be at war with someone...
“.... wheres the MSM outrage of Constitutional rights being usurped by this moron?<
You’re assuming that the MSM gives a hoot about the Constitution.
LOL.... Rubber side down dang it !
My 84 vette got 26mpg ..... Yer doing fine and fast enough if that rig is getting 25..... Any more foot in it and yer gonna be dragging yer cowboy boots in asphalt !
Well, that's what Obama's is good at.
Finding programs that work - and kill them.
All the while finding programs that fail, and throw more of our money at them.
Didn’t Clinton try the same thing with questionable results?
That is as much of a clown action as I’ve seen. When was the last time you saw anyone use an M1 Garand in a holdup?
Obama should be wearing big shoes and a red round nose. What a piece of dog waste. The part about street thugs regestering guns under a corporate name is something they will have to explain to me. There are checks within the Bureau of Tobacco and Firearms against this kind of thing. A man walks into a gun store and tries to register a gun under a corporate name. What happens? The guy asks for proof. Where does the guy get any proof of association with the corporation? This is just political bull!
When they do, please tell me he will be leading.
Right - my bad.
Since the Congress does nothing I assume they agree!! B@stards all!!
Impeach, remove, execute with firing squad of M1 Garands.
Nagants are still plentiful, and while not GI issue, Auto Ordinance is still producing the M1 carbine.
Is ole Joe a little clueless here? How many crimes have been committed using a 1917 Enfleld? How often? Once a week? Once a month? Once a year? Once a decade? Once Ever? How many street thugs are drooling for a bolt action rifle that hold FIVE ROUNDS .... oooh and get to fumble with a CLIP to cram the cartridges in ... uh, how many??
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that an old rifle that’s dang near FIVE FEET long is SO much the hidden armament ..
Yeah boy, that’s really going to drop the crime rate in the cities!
As far as I know, this was the only federal program that wasn’t at best indifferent to the original intent of the Second Amendment. Most of them are outright hostile about it.
The CMP gets its rifles from the military, not from foreign imports. The last batches came from Greece, Italy, Denmark and a few from Germany and were loaned to those countries after WWII under the Military Assistance Program. When they are through with them, they will return them. There are other European countries with rifles that were loaned to them under the MAP and depending on the country, they may or may not be coming back to the US.
OTOH the current batch of Garands and M-1 Carbines awaiting importation from Korea would be held up. As Korea is looking to sell the rifles to importers rather than return rifles to the US Army. One of the controversies is whether the Korean rifles are loaners or whether the Koreans bought them from Uncle Sam ... they did some of both apparently.
I am still seething about the destruction of all the Garands and Carbines that were to be returned from South Korea. What a waste.
I can’t stand this crapola. We are done for. THREE more years of this???
Rule by Kingly Decree
It is what the people want. It is what they voted for.
There is precious little left.
Those haven’t been destroyed AFAIK. Those rifles were purchased from the US by S Korea. Private importers have been trying for years to get permission to import them, held up by both the Bush and Obama administrations. IIRC, the CMP is not authorized to act as a firearms importer.
For once I was head of the curve.
Meanwhile, Congress ignores the American people, ya think?
Now you just need some ammo.
I am afraid the new BATF guy may interpret this as banning the importation of military grade ammo too.
P.S. I think the S Korea rifles are all in shipping containers in S Korea.
