Police are still trying to figure out why a black mob beat Richard Daughenbaugh to death at a popular downtown Des Moines fishing spot one week ago.

Daughenbaugh, a father of six who worked as a construction laborer, did not know his killers, say police. But at 1 a.m., he found himself exchanging words with members of a mob that numbered in the dozens.

The Des Moines Register picks up the narrative with a sterile account that understates the violence and ignores the race of the attackers:

The suspects allegedly beat Daughenbaugh using no weapons other than their own bodies while others in the group tried to stop anyone from helping, police said.

A woman fishing nearby tried to step in and stop the assault and was struck, police said. Her companion was attacked as he jumped in to defend her.

And when the woman tried to call 911, two women from the group allegedly grabbed her phone and threw it. She eventually retrieved it and called 911.

I carry a Kimber Ultra 7+1 but have recently begun to wonder if I should carry my XDM 19+1.

A lot of people on the internet tell me similar stories, but the people I know who carry regularly (me included) have a hard time concealing a compact semi-auto, even in an IWB holster. Do you buy extra long shirts to conceal the bottom of your holster or do you live in a place where its OK to expose the holster? Do you mostly carry in rural places or do you carry in a city where people may bump up against you in public places? Do you live in a place where its OK to “print” as long as the gun isn’t actually exposed?

I like living in a state where open-carry is allowed, since it means that if your gun prints or is momentarily exposed, you have not committed an offense.

I tend to carry a small gun IWB, and cover it with a long t-shirt (you can find "tall" sizes that are extra long) or sweat-shirt depending on the season.

Heard a speaker for the MLK thing saying “electing a black President was just a DOWN PAYMENT”. So according to them we’re supposed to pay and pay and pay some more. Howecer, they can’t actually believe this will solve problems since it hasn’t worked so far but it will advance the leader’s bank accounts.

In negotiations, if the total of what you are prepared to concede will still leave the other side unhappy and demanding more, it is better to simply concede nothing.

It's like unions. Nothing with satisfy the race-pimps, so give them nothing, and rescind everything given so far.

Carry your weapon IWB at the small of the back. A loose shirt, even tucked in will cover nicely. And, once u get used to it you’ll forget it’s there.

I’m still wondering if I’m under gunned.

I used to carry a standard 1911, with 7+1. When I started reading about flash mobs, I decided I was undergunned. I now carry a P12, 12+1, and an extra mag. I'm seriously considering buying a Kel-Tec PMR 30, with 30 rounds of .22 WMR. I hate to give up the larger round, but I like the idea of more of them. Mobs are usually undisciplined, so they won't press an attack after they've lost a few (I hope).

I agree about the one you have with you.

I try and stay out of bad areas at night but if I have to be in one my full size option is a Glock G22 with two spare 15 round magazines. The G22 goes in a Crossbreed Supertuck and the magazines go in a Tagua 2 mag carrier on the other side. It’s still pretty easy to carry under a large shirt and gives me 46 165 gr Gold Dot JHPs. If that’s not enough I really am somewhere I shouldn’t have been.

I love my .45 but it’s big, heavy, and only carries 8 rounds. Two spare 7 round mags are still going to give me less than half of the G22’s firepower.

Most lynch mobs didn't "wander around looking for victims". The lack of due process in lynch law GREATLY increased the risk of an innocent being killed, but killing innocents was not their PURPOSE.

These attacks, happening all over the country, are DIRECTED at innocents, who are being killed BECAUSE they are innocent.

Just because we’re hearing about it more, and talking about it more, doesn’t mean it wasn’t happening before TM/GZ, or before Holder/Obama.

If you look at the interracial violent crime stats from 5-6 years ago, you find a huge disparity between black on white vs. white on black events back then. These things were happening, they just weren’t being discussed at all.
