It’s a battle of Christians versus Christians in Brandon, Miss. where city officials oppose efforts by a prominent church to erect a giant cross because it violates a zoning ordinance. But the pastor of the church said elected officials are also afraid the cross might offend Muslims. FOLLOW TODD ON FACEBOOK FOR CONSERVATIVE NEWS. CLICK HERE TO JOIN! The First Baptist Church of Brandon petitioned the city to install a 110-foot tall cross on its property alongside Interstate 20. Rent a chunk of the land to a cell phone provider and let them put up the tower disguised as a cross.

They did that with one they tried to make look like a pine tree on the south side of Charlotte, NC. Only problem is it’s about 5 times higher than anything near it and looks fake as all get out when you get within 1/4 mile of it.

I nominate Groom, Texas:

Drving I-40 through Texas, I could still see the cross in my rear view 12 miles later.

I honestly wish our biggest problem in the USA was a contest on building the tallest cross.

Who is building the Cross at Brandon?
Crosses Across America is a 501c(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to construct Crosses
across America. They are in their 29th year of existence with over 2000 clusters of Crosses
in 29 states and 2 foreign countries.

What is the proposal?
Erect a Cross, which will stand 110’ in height and have arms which are 64’ wide. The base is
8’ in diameter. The Cross will weight 18 tons.

Who is funding this project?
Crosses Across America will build the structure at its own expense. The projected cost
is $80,000 to $100,000.

Why did they choose the I-20 property (Boyce Thompson Campus)?
Almost 50 million people a year pass the I-20 location (92,000 cars daily; 33,580,000 cars
annually and with MDOT counting 1.5 people per car, that equals 50,370,000). What a witness
until Jesus comes back.

Who has approved the proposal for erecting the Cross?

First Baptist Church of Brandon in a regular church business session.
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT)

What is the current status of the Cross?
The permitting process started with the City of Brandon on Monday, August 19.
The City’s Planning Commission will review the plans on Monday, August 26.

It is scheduled for a public hearing and vote by the Board of Alderman on Monday, September 16,
at 6:00 pm, at Brandon City Hall.

I am offended every time I see a minaret.

If it is private property what is the rub?
