Thousands of Walmart employees are gearing up for a massive strike Thursday. Last week, fast food workers walked out on their jobs — demanding $15 an hour. Walmart employees are seeking similar wages.

In a Facebook post, the group, called OUR Walmart, says it is the “lifeblood” of the company and demands...

“Walmart, it’s time to reinstate Associates who have been unjustly fired. We’re ready to stand up until this happens and we, the Associates, are paid a wage we can live on.”

The group claims 500,000 employees are making less than $10 an hour and says the reality of the wages are much worse than many are led to believe.

More specifically, the group asking for change wants Walmart to....

Massive strike?

I don't think so. Looks like a few disgruntled clowns making a lot of noise. We shall see.

I’m sure that WalMart has lots of people that will be more than happy to fill in for the strikers, permanently.

Course, should be able to find a job at mickeyd’s also.

In fact, I can probably find two part time jobs.

things are looking pretty good!

The average wage for a full-time hourly employee at Wal-Mart is $12.57 an hour.

BTW, there is much ado at the third link about "70 illegally fired workers".

Folks, if you don't show up for work and don't have an acceptable excuse, you are going to be fired. It doesn't get any simpler than that.

I wouldn’t be so sure it’s a small strike. This will have union organizing skill and funds behind it.

I also hope it gets laughed outta town. These bozos have no understanding of economics.

Today, Walmart should have had its workers put up “Help Wanted” and “Now Hiring” signs.

Tomorrow, for everyone who strikes, fire them, and blacklist them so another Walmart cannot ever hire them.

I’d be willing to bet, most will be purple people beaters disguised as Wal-Mart workers.

SEIU, one of the most insipid unions. I guess if your IQ is that low you have to have a union to keep a job.

I doubt thousands are planning this. I know many friends that work at WalMart and are happy with thier wages. They have worked there for years and been given good raises. Some are managers now. Wal Mart is not a perfect place to work but it is better than most. If someone doesn’t like it, get a degree and move along.

A “Collegiate Athlete”? So, reality must have been a shock. So now he wants Wal-Mart to supply him with the Full Boat he was getting.

When I got my MBA in 2007 I did my final paper on Wal-Mart because they publish all of their data. In 15 states they are the single largest employer. The average start age at the time was 40 and Wal-Mart was typically the first job that person got. Wal-Mart taught them how to work, how to act at work, to show up on time. On average the employees stayed slightly less than two years. By which time they had a resume, some skills and could get a better, higher paying job. The turnover at Wal-Mart, at the time, was half a million workers a year. That made Wal-Mart the jobs growth engine of the entire nation. If that turnover slows down then the job growth engine slows down too. There won’t be any entry level jobs. So, paying a higher wage and more benefits will damage the biggest job engine the country still has.

Wal-mart is so big that any single store is utterly insignificant. In fact, they could close down a hundred stores for a time as they train new people and not suffer any significant ill effects.

A store in Canada voted to go union, so they closed it.

That’s why they are so hated.
