DALLAS — Dallas police said late Sunday they have recovered a vehicle belonging to sexual assault suspect Van Dralan Dixson.

The car was found in a Garland parking lot and towed to the Dallas Auto Pound for further investigation.

A DNA test has positively matched Dixson, 38, with one of nine rapes in the Fair Park area of Dallas. He remains at large, facing an aggravated sexual assault charge with bond set at $1 million.

Police said they interviewed members of Dixson's family on Sunday as they try to determine where he is.

Family members told investigators that Dixson left his children in the care of family members.

The police interest in Van Dixson came as a shock to many residents who live on his block and know him by his nickname, "Neighborhood Watch."

“He just walks every night, all night," said area resident Billy Washington. "Every time I would look out my window, or out my door, he was walking."

“He would have on his basketball shorts and his T-shirt, and he would have his weapon, of course," said another neighbor who did not wish to be identified. "He would just be patrolling our neighborhood.

With a "criminal history" and being "sentenced" in 1993, how'd he get a CCW/CHL? Did he even have one? Record expunged? Too many loose ends in the story's facts, or I need more coffee. Just wondering.

I don’t see where it says he had a CCW. I’m guessing he was armed and the neighborhood just accepted it.

He wasn't patrolling - he was prowling -
and with his criminal record - He should have been under watch by the police - and queried as to his nightly prowling - with a gun??? Didn't think convicted criminals were allowed.

"He's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be living... until he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then... ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin'."
