Prince Georges County, Baltimore County, and Baltimore City rule the state.

I don't like the idea of secession. Why not just expel Baltimore City, Montgomery Co, and Prince Georges Co. Let them join the district of Columbia!

Why not just join West Virginia?

Out of the frying pan and into the fire? Although population centers of Morgantown, Wheeling, Huntington, Charleston and Parkersburg, would not dominate Maryland's Western counties in the same manner as Bawlmer and the three major corridor counties currently do. In addition, the Eastern Shore could join up with Delaware.
A major problem is that the voting districts have been so gerrymandered, esp. congressional, that the "loyal opposition" doesn't stand a chance.

This is a major reason why direct popular election of Senators is a bad idea; it disenfranchises suburban and rural citizens to the benefit of Chicago, Baltimore, Denver, etc.

Repeal the 17th Amendment! And, no, I'm not joking.
