Obama Eases Sanctions on Nuclear Iran as part of Syria "deal"
Virtual Jerusalem ^ | 9/13/13 | Rouhani

Posted on 09/13/2013 1:27:47 PM PDT by pabianice

Iran, and not just Russia and Syria, is taking advantage of President Barack Obama's decision to refrain from military force against Syria to collect a shower of diplomatic and political dividends.

The new Iranian president Hassan Rouhani announced Tuesday that the coming meeting of the General Assembly opening in New York later this month "may prove the perfect setting to reignite talks about the nation's nuclear program." The US Treasury Department accordingly lifted a string of sanctions restricting humanitarian and athletic exchanges between US and Iranian NGOs and environmental projects, as a counter-gesture of good will.

Washington was not put off when that comment proved to be an exercise in image-burnishing for the benefit of the West. That same day, the Iranian president declared his country would not give up "one iota of its nuclear capabilities."

debkafile's Iranian sources disclose that the posturing on all sides provided the facade for the secret exchange of messages between Washington, Tehran, Moscow and Damascus. They focused first on a Russian pledge to bring Assad's chemical arsenal under international control and destroyed. This was followed by Tehran consenting to engage in direct dialogue with Washington when the next UN General Assembly session opens in New York on September 23.

Rouhani, who has consistently refused to enter into direct talks with Washington on his government's nuclear program, said Friday, Sept. 6: "Initial steps in the future of nuclear talks may be taken in New York and then these talks will be pursued by the Group 5 + 1."

debkafile: For President Obama, the two issues - the disposal of Syria's chemical weapons and resolution of the nuclear controversy with Iran - were closely interwoven in his quiet exchanges with Vladimir Putin, which emphasized the diplomatic, non-military route.

The Russian leader appears to have assured Obama that an agreed formula for defusing the Syrian chemical weapons issue without military force would provide the key to progress in nuclear talks with Iran.

Our Iranian sources report that Tehran was in on all stages of the discreet Obama-Putin discussions on Syria: High-ranking Iranian officials were present in Damascus and Moscow throughout, and points of agreement were brought to Tehran for approval.

Full details of how this four-handed game was conducted and details of the deals struck between the US, Russia and Iran, will be revealed for the first time in the next issue of DEBKA Weekly out Friday, Sept. 13.

That's "I've got a bridge to sell you" territory.

What I don't get is that Putin would have to be nervous about nuclear capability in Iran, but has been acting supportive of them.

The Russians have been in Iran providing the technology and expertise to develop their nuclear capability at least from the early ‘90s.
I know this from having spent time in Belarus.

The Syrian govt gas is already well hidden, end of file on that. Nobody with two brain cells could have possibly expected any other course. What is inevitable and foreseeable from a selected action is also intended.

Insofar as Iran’s dangerous military build-up (including nukes and long-range missiles), O has been protecting the Irani regime and its weapons factories for his entire time in office. There is no visible sign of any change that policy, especially given his consistent assistance to the most anti-American and anti-Christian Islamicist groups in every country he deals with.

Until such time as we get a new president, or until the present occupant of the White House has a real epiphany (whether on the road to Damascus, Kenya, Indonesia, Cairo, Teheran, or any of his other favorite places), we have to expect “more of the same.”

Pray for America.

This alone justifies at minimum impeachment and removal from office, but more likely merits charges of treason being filed.

In your view is it just about money? Like the Germans and French supplying Saddam with nuclear technology, or shipping CW precursor chemicals? Or is there some other motivation?

Question: What is the difference between Obama and Putin?

Answer: One man loves his country and wants to see it be powerful, respected and number one in all good things.

The other is the President of the United States............

My source was common knowledge “on the street.”

Money, political power, influence, building, maintaining control over their interests in the Mid-East. Darn Russian communists have big greedy appetites.

I believe you guys have it all wrong.

This is more of Obama’s flexibility.

Russia is obviously running the show, but Obama does not mind helping his friends in Iran, Syrian hasn’t given up anything yet, and we are still sending weapons to Syria.

How do we know this whole thing wasn’t just a part of Obama’s flexibility.

Our military must be weaker than we thought. My deal would have been not to call for a coordinated attack on Iran on the grounds of supplying gas to the Syrians.

The SYRIANS are gassing each other, but somehow we have to concede things in order to settle the situation?

It is said that if you can’t spot the sucker at the table, the sucker is you. Who does Obama think is the sucker at the table?

I’ll lay odds that the gas came from Iraq, which would blow the ‘No WMD in Iraq’ thing to hell and vindicate Bush FOREVER.

I’ll further bet that giving up stuff to Iran is better than the entire caravan of progressive fellow travelers having to admit they were wrong all these years (and elections).

Look up one of the definitions of ‘punk’...........

“punk” a stick of compressed matter similar to incense, which is used to light fireworks on the Fourth of July.

Oh you mean this one: a : a young inexperienced person : beginner, novice;

That still makes the assumption that Zero has the talent or experience to improve, I don’t think this “brilliant man” (using the term man loosely) has any ability to improve his skill level. But I believe you and I share the same high opinion of the current resident.
