House Republicans pass test vote to defund Obamacare; shutdown edges closer

House Republicans survived a key test vote Thursday on their plan to keep the government running while trying to halt the health care law, defying a veto threat from President Obama and inching closer to a shutdown showdown with Senate Democrats. Top Republicans say their party’s strategy is unlikely to succeed and not worth shutting down the government, but some rank-and-file lawmakers said they have to draw a line now and use the leverage of the spending bill to end the president’s signature achievement.

This is the right fight. We can’t expect representatives to do the right thing if we won’t do OUR job and support them when they do the right thing.

Please pick up the phones, folks. Calling each Senator and your rep will take all of 5 minutes.

“Doesn’t matter....It has to go through the DEM Senate and the president would sure never sign it. He’s just laughing his butt off.”

That all depends on whether the House is willing to stand firm and allow the government to shut down. If they do, then this could become a game of who decides to blink first. Which is exactly what we want.

“A veto. We will never get enough override votes.”

No. But by being willing to allow an indefinite shutdown, the House could force a compromise. Delay deathcare implementation for 2 years. The longer it’s delayed, the less chance it has of being implemented.

You are right, but to add specificity to it, I think it was something along the lines of 25-30% of the populace supported the Revolution, 25-30% supported the king and almost 40% of the people simply didn’t care enough to think about making a decision.

We need to bring that forward more often when people lose heart. If history does indeed repeat itself, it stands to reason that victories against all odds repeat as well.

Watch them cave when the Senate sends it back. We all know it’s going to happen, because that’s what the GOP does when King BHO & the DemoNazis send a bill back. The GOP couldn’t beat the Liberal girly man King BHO if they wanted.

Nancy Pelosi - Legislative Arsonist?

Exactly. Delay until 2014 and take back the Senate. We simply MUST take the Senate back. We MUST.

I don’t think the Senate is even necessary. Delay, rinse, repeat.

This all boils down to whether or not the House has the willingness and courage to stand firm.

I was figuring it’d be something along those lines...

Basically, it’ll just be a combination of kicking the fiscal can down the lane more, with kabuki theater for the chattering classes.

Well, what’s your proposal?

We lost the ObamaCare votes in Congress in 2010. It passed, even though Harry Reid violated Senate rules and passed it by shenanigans because he didn't have 60 votes. In fact, the Senate version of the bill should have begun in the House, but it didn't. Another violation, but Washington DC plays dirty.

We lost the hope of repealing ObamaCare when Romney lost the Presidency and the Republicans lost Senate seats.

We lost the chance of the SCOTUS to overturn it when Judas Roberts mysteriously changed his vote.

The vast majority of ObamaCare is mandatory spending, and they only portion they are taking about "de-funding" is the sliver of discretionary that accompanies it.

So this is all a game of Boob Bait for the Bubbas.

Everyone listening to every word from Hannity on the radio and every syllable from Ted Cruz on this has been played for a fool.

Without the Senate and the White House, there is NO WAY that ObamaCare is being de-funded or repealed.

None.

These next 2 weeks are about the budget. There are 2 of them, a House budget and a Senate budget (the first time since 2009 they passed one). The bills are about $90 Billion apart. They could have gone to Conference months ago to resolve the bills, but the GOP refused.

And since only 2 of the 12 Appropriations bills have even come up for a vote, we are in even worse shape.

The only hope either side has is for a Continuing Resolution, and with this ObamaCare sideshow, that is looking less likely.

If there is a shutdown, I say - no Entitlement checks should be sent out. Zero. No Social Security, nothing. Let America feel the pain for the games that both sides are playing.

Out military has already paid a terrible price in all of these games between Obama and Congress. It has been raided like and ATM machine through massive cuts before and after Sequestration, but Entitlements, the REAL cause of our debt and deficits, were left exempt. This is criminal.

If we get to the debt ceiling and they are still playing games, then the US Dollar is in big, big trouble. We will always pay interest on the debt, but the world will see that we are not serious about our fiscal matters, and the Dollar will accelerate its exit as the world's Reserve Currency. This is already occurring. When that happens, out interest on our current debt will skyrocket, and we will collapse.

The only hope is for a "Grand Bargain" that reforms both taxes and entitlements, along the lines of the Simpson-Bowles proposal.

Social Security and Medicare payments will still go out,

Oh, goodie.

Amazing, isn't it, that the largest contributors to out debt and deficit (Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid), continue down the happy garden path, even while the rest of the USS America sinks around it.

But starting in 2016, deficits are projected to rise again as more baby boomers begin drawing from Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security — the fast-growing entitlement programs, which Democrats and Republicans cannot agree on how to rein in. ......What is different now is that the Republican-controlled House and the White House have been on a two-year run of deficit reduction that has resulted, because of their inability to agree on entitlement reductions and higher tax revenues, in deepening cuts in the budget areas that are not responsible for the projections of mounting debt. Those discretionary spending programs — which include things as varied as Pentagon weapons purchases, air traffic control, science and research, education and national parks — are being squeezed even as entitlement spending grows automatically.

This is just for show.for show. Thats why this vote is nothing but a farce. The GOP is hoping we’re dumb enough to fall for it.

“GOP Doc: Vote to Defund Obamacare, Let Senate Erase It”

“A document House Majority Leader Eric Cantor distributed to all House Republicans on Tuesday, obtained by Breitbart News, confirms that he is planning to make it appear as though the House is voting to defund Obamacare while using a legislative procedural trick which would allow the Democrat-controlled Senate to strip defunding language from the Continuing Resolution.”

All those words and not a single solution proposed by you. Instead you say:

“So this is all a game of Boob Bait for the Bubbas.”

Well, this “Bubba” has one response to my enslavers:

(repeating previous posting)

When I lose my policy, I will not sign up for the exchanges. When they send the fine, I will not pay it. Eventually, they MUST issue a warrant to arrest me for not paying the fines and when they do, I will ignore its command. Eventually, they will have to act to enforce that warrant and then they will knock on my door, when they do I will not answer it. Eventually, they will be forced to kick the door in and when they do they will be met with resistance and they will pay a price.

Of course, I know that I will pay the ultimate price, but they must be willing to shoot me dead in order to mandate their health insurance utopia.

It is that way with every one of their desires, but this one is my bright line.

That certainly plays out when God is on your side. However, I fear with our current culture of sex and homosexuality, that we are not deserving of his blessing. It is truly frustrating for me to see the problem, but not be able to do anything except pray....

Ask yourself this CSM. What is it that makes a country what it is? I say it is the people. And who are “the people”? They are individuals. You, me, nancy pelosi, Ted Cruz,

I can't remember the particular situation in the Bible, I think it was Sodom and Gomorrah ..where (was it Lot?) asks God if he will spare the city if (I don't remember the countdown’ but it went like this) 10 righteous people were found and God says He would, then it goes to 9 people, 8 people, you get the picture.

The thing is, God takes care of His own, no matter what. There is no “We are not deserving”. As individuals, we can pray, and that will be enough.

I do not believe in collective guilt. Lot was not responsible for Sodom or Gomorrah, he just happened to live there.

I agree with you and did not intend to indicate a belief in collective guilt for individuals. However, there is something to be said as to the blessings bestowed upon America as a nation that has benefitted generations of individuals.

I am fearing that our nation is being governed by the minority that is actively working against God and as a result we will pay a price. I know that individuals are responsible for their own lives and they are accountable individually to God. However, there is something to be said for the blessings bestowed upon a nation.

Remember, even the Isrealites were subjected to wandering the desert for 40 years. Which would have ensured the passing of generations before they were blessed with the promised land.

I am certainly no biblical scholar. I am just expressing some sad thoughts.....

Thank you, CSM. Your thoughts make a lot of sense.

Sorry for the late answer, I was on the live thread last night and fell asleep. Just catching up this morning.
