Obama says fight for gun laws “ought to obsess us”
Associated Press ^ | Sep. 22, 2013 6:15 PM EDT | Nedra Pickler

President Barack Obama on Sunday memorialized the victims of the Washington Navy Yard shooting by calling for a transformation in the nation’s gun laws to address an epidemic of gun violence, saying, “There’s nothing inevitable about it.”

Reprising his role of the nation’s consoler in chief after yet another mass shooting, Obama said Americans should honor the victims of last Monday’s shooting by insisting on a change in gun laws. “It ought to obsess us,” Obama said. …

He said no other advanced nation endures the kind of gun violence seen in the United States, and blamed mass shootings in America on laws that fail “to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and dangerous people.” …

Oh we’re obsessed alright, Obama! We’re obsessed with people like you who try to foist your socialist ideologies on us! Take all those billions of dollars you’re peeing down the drain on your radical islamist friends and countries and help our mentally ill get help. The answers are so simple that sometimes I’d like to puke! But, the answers don’t fit your plans for taking this country down! You don’t fool most of us American people, but most of all, you don’t fool God! He’ll deal with you in due time!

“Severe shortage of spine and guts amongst the sewer slime, ya think?”

I think it is two things.

1. The obsession of the MSM to protect and promote President Obama, no matter what happens.

2. Absolute fear of the MSM by the Republican leadership that may have some blackmail thrown in for good measure.

This administration has shown (from President Obama’s previous elections) that they have no integrity or ethics when it comes to getting and keeping power. With the MSM at their backs, blackmail could be easy and very, very useful.

“Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-Related Violence,” released in June 2013

Here are some key findings from the CDC report, “Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-Related Violence,” released in June:

1. Armed citizens are less likely to be injured by an attacker:
“Studies that directly assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns (i.e., incidents in which a gun was ‘used’ by the crime victim in the sense of attacking or threatening an offender) have found consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies.”

2. Defensive uses of guns are common:
“Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year…in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008.”

3. Mass shootings and accidental firearm deaths account for a small fraction of gun-related deaths, and both are declining:
“The number of public mass shootings of the type that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School accounted for a very small fraction of all firearm-related deaths. Since 1983 there have been 78 events in which 4 or more individuals were killed by a single perpetrator in 1 day in the United States, resulting in 547 victims and 476 injured persons.” The report also notes, “Unintentional firearm-related deaths have steadily declined during the past century. The number of unintentional deaths due to firearm-related incidents accounted for less than 1 percent of all unintentional fatalities in 2010.”

4. “Interventions” (i.e, gun control) such as background checks, so-called assault rifle bans and gun-free zones produce “mixed” results:
“Whether gun restrictions reduce firearm-related violence is an unresolved issue.” The report could not conclude whether “passage of right-to-carry laws decrease or increase violence crime.”

5. Gun buyback/turn-in programs are “ineffective” in reducing crime:
“There is empirical evidence that gun turn in programs are ineffective, as noted in the 2005 NRC study Firearms and Violence: A Critical Review. For example, in 2009, an estimated 310 million guns were available to civilians in the United States (Krouse, 2012), but gun buy-back programs typically recover less than 1,000 guns (NRC, 2005). On the local level, buy-backs may increase awareness of firearm violence. However, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for example, guns recovered in the buy-back were not the same guns as those most often used in homicides and suicides (Kuhn et al., 2002).”

6. Stolen guns and retail/gun show purchases account for very little crime:
“More recent prisoner surveys suggest that stolen guns account for only a small percentage of guns used by convicted criminals. … According to a 1997 survey of inmates, approximately 70 percent of the guns used or possess by criminals at the time of their arrest came from family or friends, drug dealers, street purchases, or the underground market.”

7. The vast majority of gun-related deaths are not homicides, but suicides:
“Between the years 2000-2010 firearm-related suicides significantly outnumbered homicides for all age groups, annually accounting for 61 percent of the more than 335,600 people who died from firearms related violence in the United States.”

Why No One Has Heard This
Given the CDC’s prior track record on guns, you may be surprised by the extent with which the new research refutes some of the anti-gun movement’s deepest convictions.
What are opponents of the Second Amendment doing about the new data? Perhaps predictably, they’re ignoring it. President Obama, Michael Bloomberg and the Brady Campaign remain silent. Most suspicious of all, the various media outlets that so eagerly anticipated the CDC research are looking the other way as well. One must wonder how media coverage of the CDC report may have differed, had the research more closely fit an anti-gun narrative.

Even worse, the few mainstream journalists who did report the CDC’s findings chose to cherry-pick from the data. Most, like NBC News, reported exclusively on the finding that gun suicides are up. Largely lost in that discussion is the fact that the overall rate of suicide—regardless of whether a gun is involved or not—is also up.

Truth be know, it is Obummer that is obsessed with getting his hands on our guns. He has this nagging feeling that it may be a little risky to declare himself dictator for life if he can not pull off his gun grab and he is acutely aware that his cover to do so within a normal two term presidency is fast coming to an end. Separately, I am more than a little curious over the rapidity with which the so called mass shootings have occurred during Obummer's illegitimate reign.

Maybe he should have spoken about his Secretary of Defense ... the second one that couldn’t even protect its own ... had to call outsiders to come in and shoot the bad guy after a half hour or so.

If Obama has accomplished anything, its that people need to be armed and protected from their own government.

There is nothing that the Obama fascists would like better than to have an unarmed electorate to push around, manipulate, and cow.

Most have NO idea of the horrors Obama would wreck on our people.

Good Read on Obama Fascism

LOL!! By his choice of words (obsess), he is still annoyed at the house vote on defunding OCare. They were expecting people to give up and give in.

i’ve always found it funny when dems demand we hand in our guns... from behind armored walls, bullet proof glass, and ringed by marines

marines with loaded weapons, mind you. unlike those unfortunates on base recently.

on base and completely unarmed. wtf

(well, no ammo... an American soldier is never truly unarmed ;)

She won’t remember anything, anyway.. and she hit her head, too! She will have amnesia if ever called to testify again.

There are a whole lot of people that worked with and around her that should be Subpoenaed. She would be the last scumbag I would want to talk to.

Obama is a very dangerous man. He really believes that taking guns away from law-abiding citizens is helpful.

He wants to arm Al-Qaeda in Syria with the same arms he wants to ban Americans from owning.

That should pretty much tell Americans all they need to know about this traitor.

If he were any more gay, he’d burst into flames.

Somewhere, there's a picture of this guy wearing a lavender tank-top at a Cher concert.

If we could somehow prevent all Obama supporters from possessing guns, there would be almost no gun crimes in America. We would have a murder rate lower that Sweden’s.

More exploitation by the Kenyan. Barry is a real, dope-smoking sicko. Sorry Barry, I’m “obsessed” with freedom and intend to stay that way until the day you kill me with one of your death panels. You wouldn’t understand. You have to be an American.

“The U.S. is third in murders throughout the world.”

Actually 108 or 110th, as anyone who can punch up Wikipedia can see.

Transparent as all heck.
