Within Senate GOP, frustration with Cruz
The Hill ^ | 9/25/13 | Erik Wasson and Peter Schroeder

A number of Sen. Ted Cruz's colleagues on Tuesday expressed frustration at the Texas Republican's tactics in the fight over ObamaCare and government funding.

As Cruz prepared to speak for hours on the Senate floor to try to delay work on the government-funding measure, many fellow GOP senators exited a conference meeting said they thought his strategy would backfire on their party.

That will increase exponentially if this thing goes through. Cruz will look like a saint.

He goes past the media.

He knows rinos are the worst obstacle. He said yesterday that he is proud to be in the elite group known as the Wacko Birds.

I'm a big Cruz fan but I'm a bit mystified by his strategy here. What does delay accomplish?

A couple of things. First by his effort to dramatically draw attention to the evils of obamacare with this marathon exegesis of the bill, he is raising national awareness of what is at stake. The fact that the ruling class has exempted itself is akin to rubbing our nose in it. Second, he is setting up the republicans (at least those who stand with John Q. Citizen, the victim of obamacare) with a winning political issue for the midterms. And he is also either setting up (or derailing) his presidential campaign.

If ever there was a time to March on DC it is today. If I lived in the area I would be down there. Can you imagine the effect of a spontaneous gathering of mass of peaceful protesters?

If that is true, then their offices both in DC and their home states need to be swarmed by constituents. Phones off the hook is just not acceptable and should not be tolerated. If they won’t read email, fax, or answer their phones perhaps some good old fashioned tar and feathers will get their attention.

A vote for cloture is a vote for ObamaCare and these POS RINOS know it.

There is no vote for cloture. Debate ends at noon regardless and the vote on the bill is scheduled for 1.

I thought the Senate requires a 60 vote cloture to end filibusters?

Cruz warns Senate Republicans not to break his filibuster

Several other Republicans have also said they will vote the same way, making it apparent Democrats will be able to get the 60 votes needed to break the filibusters and then take out the defunding language.

What does the delay accomplish?

It hangs this big turd around the appropriate necks.

You’re missing the fact that the vote on cloture today at noon will separate the sheep from the goats in the Republican Party. Those voting with Harry Reid today will enable him to vote on stripping the House bill of the language that defunds ObamaCare with just 51 Democrat votes, instead of requiring 60 votes that would mean some Republicans would have to vote with the Democrats. In other words, this is the day we will identify who the quislings are. That is extremely helpful because we will know who the enemies are within the ranks.

At 10pm est poor Lindsey Graham was on Greta’s show complaining about having TO STAY UP PAST HIS BEDTIME to be on while Senator Ted Cruz was pulling an allnighter on the floor of the U.S. Senate fighting for our best interest.

Hope you got to sleep in Lindsey, poor thing.

I wish he would join in on this fight
