3D Printing Now Brings You Semiautomatic Pistols (The Better To Scare Control Freaks)

It's not yet ready for prime-time (it has yet to be tested), but 3D printing tinkerers have developed a design for a semiautomatic pistol. In fact, the developer says a full-automatic version would be easier to make with available materials. What a long way we've come, in just a few short months, toward the ultimate goal of rendering gun control laws a complete joke. Well...they were already a joke (though a dangerous one). It's more accurate to say we've come a long way toward rendering such laws moot, and easily bypassed by even those with limited technical skills.

Over at DEFCAD, Proteus, a moderator and developer of the design (which another poster dubs "the brick" for obvious reasons) writes:

The future takes many forms, some unexpected; I think this technology is one such. Resistance, as we see demonstrated here, takes many forms as well.

Right now these are curiousities; in time, they will be quite viable.

I haven't fired a weapon in years.

Do you have a recommendation for a gun that will get the job done but doesn't have a lot of kickback? This hummingbird is kind of petite and not terribly strong but I'm looking for something that will get the job done but is light enough that it won't throw me back on my *ss.

Printable, disposable semi-auto pistols that can reliably shoot 10 times are coming within a year. It will cost a few bucks to make once one has the printer.

You should post a vanity on the subject. You'll get flooded with great recommendations.

Before I lost all weapons in that tragic boating accident up on the river, I had (among other things) a Glock 26 (great for concealed carry and a pretty good punch), a .357 Ruger wheel gun (not good for carry), and a very cute little Keltec P-32.

The Keltec P-32's or Ruger .380's are very popular with women because they fit nicely into a purse and weigh virtually nothing. See stock photo below.

If you really want to spend some money, look into the Seecamp .32 or .380 (heirloom craftmanship in the Seecamp). Whatever you consider, go to a range and rent if possible and see what feels right...and then practice until you get very comfortable with your choice.
