I've properly taken to task Republicans who--in the heat of the present battle--are still attacking Ted Cruz and thereby effectively adding their voices to the Democrat choir that would blame Republicans for a government shutdown. (Their defeatist prophecy is sadly self-fulfilling.)
For that criticism, I've lately been accused of calling for a "purge" of impure Republicans.
Of course, I've never called for a purge, but the talk of purges makes me wonder if perhaps I and others like-minded should "purge" ourselves from the Republican Party.
No matter what you think about the current CR/Obamacare battle, it seems undeniable that the GOP rank-and-file is completely frustrated with the waffling Republican establishment and its intelligentsia. I'm accused of being unrealistic about the CR fight, but if I am unrealistic, then the GOP establishment's "realists" must also admit the reality that the GOP is coming apart before our eyes. Something must arise to replace it. (Perhaps that's a self-fulfilling prophecy, too. So be it!)
Is the time ripe for a third party?
Yes, I know very well such talk is usually quickly dismissed because a third party could not immediately become a viable "stand alone" alternative to the GOP.
But a third party split off from the GOP could immediately become a formidable political force by selectively aligning itself with the GOP and GOP candidates when the occasion required, but withholding support when the GOP refused to stand for our core principles.
Following a strategy of selectively aligning itself with the GOP, a new third party could eventually supplant the GOP rump by gradually siphoning off the Republican rank-and-file without ever reducing conservative clout by a single vote.
Would you join?
What are the core principles that a third party would need to uphold to in order to win your support?
I admit, I'm a bit of Wall Street Journal squish on immigration, but I could happily join with almost any collection of anti-immigrationists if they shared my views on a government of limited, express power, the rollback of government collectivism, reduced taxes, etc. Even though I am viscerally anti-abortion, I could even go along with a party platform that would explicitly leave that issue (and SSM) for the states to decide.
I guess you could say that, at the federal level, I'm almost libertarian, while at the state and local level, I'm a communitarian who believes citizens in local communities should be allowed to decide how to rule themselves, so long as core individual rights are respected. In other words, if the people of Berkeley want to worship the god of Mother Nature and tax themselves into oblivion, that's their business, because I don't have to live there. So far as I'm concerned , the people of California can vote to do pretty much whatever they want, so long as they don't expect us Texans to pay for it with federal tax dollars.
Would you join the New American Party?
Real question should be: Would you join a 3rd party started by McPain?
I’d approve of The Challenger Party. The Party would only support challengers to incumbents REGARDLESS of declared party affiliation.
Take the idea of re-election out of the minds of our reps and I think they’ll find a new accuity to their focus on doing what’s right for their constituents over what’s right for their party.
Yes. I would prefer to call it the "Constitutionalists Party."
However, we should not be a party in opposition to the Republican party. Just as the far left took over the Democrat party we should take back the Republican Party to its original roots. This will take years but it can be done. For example if the contitutionlists have a choice between a hard left democrat or a McCain we should hold our nose and vote for a McCain. If we can primary someone like McCain and offer a viable candidate to oppose the Democrat it is "game on".
I agree with you on our Esteemed Sobber of the House, a near perfect Surrender Republican.
I find that a Surrender Republican has these as his/her first two rules:
1.) Always surrender before a fight;
2.) Always cave in to one or more Democrats, preferably on camera.

No... ‘Ted Cruz’ for Pres. .....He’s got the legal mind needed to face what’s ahead...and he’s taken on the entire congress. So I say any ticket should show Cruz at the top.....Sarah might have a role where they determine best...or she does...but I don’t believe she’s interested in running...she’s made that perfectly clear.

I agree...not there yet but it’s certainly cooking on the heads of many.
I’ve given some thought to this...and believe it’s possible to take back the party much faster than most think.....the Republicans will be showing us tomorrow just which side of the fence they are on....any whoever votes ‘for’ cloture’ have earmarked themselves as voting ‘FOR’ Obamacare’...and in doing so who needs to be voted out.
No matter the outcome...this vote of cloture shows us exactly where we need to line up strong candidates to oppose them....and maybe enough dirt on those not up for reelection to cause their resignation.
On the otherhand...if a third party was to be headed by Cruz and others of like minds....I think the American Grassroots people are strong enough and will only get stronger...to win against Hillary or any other they put up there. ....and I’d support that as well.
Either way...the fight is on!
I think you missed my point.
Bohner has done nothing this year any different than he did 2011 to 2012 when he went to Pelosi for help to pass bills he couldn’t get enough GOP votes for. And those bills really sucked as he had to get Pelosi buy in to pass them. Bohner is half the man Pelosi is.
Yet he comes up for speaker election January 3 and NO ONE in House is the least bit interested on challenging him by running for Speaker themselves.
It goes right to your suggestion. Do any of them want the responsibility?

No one will take Boners job,call your favorite pet house hero and ask him to run against him as speaker, I dare you. He will never return the call.

You should challenge them (your favorite house members) to oppose him as Speaker by running for it themselves now , this losing and then scape-goating whining stuff is long past old.

As much as I am dissatisfied with the Republican party, I have no doubt that a third party would be like pissing in the wind.
I’m with you, we need a real movement to save our way of life.
How about an amendment to ban political parties totally? That way everyone has to prove who they are by their deeds, not by their label. And you would have less mindless voters voting for my party, right or wrong. They’d actually have to listen to the candidate and find out where they stand on the issues.
Or at least run someone like Cruz as an independent. A Perot type might have won last year in a 3-way race. People are more disgusted with the parties than ever so you could use their labels against them with an independent.
Not to mention one problem with the Repubs is their cowardice and poor negotiation skills, not their ideology necessarily. So if you build a party on ideology, how do you stop them from making bad political moves?

They already did that by who they endorsed in last year's primary. The line-up of who endorsed Romney before Newt and Rick dropped out lines up closely with those who are denouncing Cruz (not to mention those who backed the NSA spying). Guys like King, Coburn, McCain... There is no mystery about who the RINOs are in most cases.
Absolutely, if it adhered to other points as spelled out by Alan Keyes and those of like mind.
