I am adhering more and more to the “Just do the right thing” philosophy, also called “Let the political chips fall where they may.”

We agonize these things to death with a million political repercussion scenarios and a million op-ed pieces by columnists earning their pay by twisting it this way and that.

We sometimes end up with the wrong repercussions, and find that the blame somehow ends up falling on us, so better to play it straight.

Second good reason: It’s the right thing, which bears its own ineradicable stamp of honor, besides often turning out right.

The mistaken assumption is that the Dem Senate and the Wh will agree to a delay. They won't. Boehner wants to place the onus on the Dems for the coming disaster.

If the govt shuts down why would the Pubs be hurt?

Who in the govt, besides military personnel, is a part of the Pub base?

I believe the only issue is will the military get paid.

Delaying the law just helps Obama. Republicans take the blame, Obama gets all the credit. There will need to be another fight every year or else the law goes into effect.

It gives the Democrats a chance to plan their strategy and win in the future.

Demand the law be repealed.

Everyone forgets the Democrat base, the unions, are turning against this. In time the Dems will be under pressure. Keep this back and forth going. But do not retreat. Defund and kill!

Boehner (and the GOP) should not wonder why the GOP base doesn’t trust them. They are victims of their own track record. They want to preach limited government, but practice big government. At least the Democrats are consistent-—they practice what they preach-—without shame or guilt or second thoughts. They are tactical and strategic political practitioners. They never lose sight of their goals; they have their eyes on the prize at all times. They march in lock step and are all reading from the “same sheet of music.” They are a well-oiled, albeit evil, machine. They care not a fig for the poor and the downtrodden, but cynically use them to acquire and maintain power.

The GOP, on the other hand, has no strategic, long-term goals. They pay lip service to conservative, limited-government, free-market ideals, but have no plan, or even intention, to codify their professed beliefs into law. Unlike the Democrats who march in lock step in pursuit of long-term objectives, the GOP is as organized as a herd of feral cats. They are here, there, and everywhere—a ship without a compass or a rudder. They are an adversary’s dream—spineless, disorganized, and lacking the courage of their stated convictions, save holding office. They cynically play their base like fools.

So excuse me if I am slightly less than convinced the GOP will finally “win one for the Gipper.” Once again, their base will be angry beyond words, swear they’ll never vote Republican again, and reflexively reelect Boehner, McConnell, Cantor and Co. once again. It’s an all too familiar script.

I agree.

I wasn’t talking about unworkable aspects of the plan, which of course are there and can’t be fixed, but the computer problems that are making it impossible to go forward with October 1 as planned. Been reading about this.

In fact, it has occurred to me that the Dems are aware of the computer mess and are getting behind the delay idea in order to ward off complete disaster.

I may be wrong, but my understanding is when the govt shuts down military personnel will still be paid, social security checks will still go out, medicare and medicaid will still be paid so where’s the pressure on the Pubs? It’s the Rat base that works for the civilian wing of the govt. If I’m right as the pressure mounts on the Rats the Pubs my be able to leverage a lot of things into the final agreement.

One would thnk that the House could easily send spending bills to the Senate to cover any real necessities. Would the Senate reject funding to keep the IRS going? It seems to me that this approach should have been used right from the get-go.

"Delay is entrenchment. It gives them time to get their act together while the alternatives slowly die. It is absolutely the wrong move."

Not really. If, that's a big IF, repubs can get their act together and spend the next year developing and broadcasting their solutions - as simple as 'they want to do this, here's what we are going to do' - it could be a good year. There are already a few articles popping up about how there are going to be large healthcare monopolies in each state from this, increased travel time to see your doctor... etc. Lots of good stories out there that the public has yet to be exposed to re devastation by obamacare.

I think if you defund it gives dems the hammer: look what they took away from you and they can advance their mythology about how great obamacare is ...

Delay pushes entrenchment back in that sense... but the repubs have got to hit the ground running and perform like never before in the next year... selling their "vision" and you know how that always ends. sigh.

Those nonessential LIV who work for the government and vote for Dems will be hurt the most. Make them stay home without pay for a few weeks. Gees the Fed Gov might work better for once!

I keep remembering the run up to the sequester cuts. The world was supposed to come to an end and nothing happened.

I think the longer a shut down goes on the more the leverage swings to the Pubs. My only concern is for military personnel who may not get paid.

I would love to agree with you. We don’t have the numbers to win that fight today. This is a war of attrition. We are accountable and individualists. The other side is dependent and parasitic. We can win this war but it will be a long haul.

Makes sense.

Why not use that to our advantage. obama will never agree to repeal, but why not get as much as we can and delay it as well. The Pubs in the House have come up with a 200 page alternative that people will like, if they hear about it. Also, why not keep campaigning on the injustice of govt and friends of obama being excluded during the delay.

I like our chances with a shut down. I think repeal is not going to happen, but some good things will.

Pay no attention to that. Boehner is just trying to pacify the sheep a while longer. If the Republicans had wanted to shut it down, they had their chance yesterday. You saw how they voted. I believe that Cruz and Lee were the only ones that sincerely voted against cloture.

Don't kid yourself, the freebies were put up front in obamacare for a purpose. Once the parasites get addicted to the freebies, obamacare stands as much of a chance of being repealed as Social Security.

I read the link to Drudge and I did NOT see anywhere in the article where Boner is quoted as saying"...shut it down" or any form of a shutdown threat.

Even Drudge is media spinning.

I think so too.

But now that we have reached that point I'm not going to look at what was done wrong in the past but what can be done right going forward.

Cruz is my HERO! At least when this Politician speaks- I will listen.

Seems like the pressure the “We the People” sent our Representatives was heard. Melting phone lines make a difference. They can’t ignore that their asses are on the line.

McCain can ROT in hell for speaking out against us!

Still have a long way to go.....

Lots of good stories out there that the public has yet to be exposed to re devastation by obamacare.

The public won't get it until it's their backside that feels the brunt of harsh reality. Until then, that's "somebody else's problem."

I think if you defund it gives dems the hammer: look what they took away from you and they can advance their mythology about how great obamacare is ...

That is why I advocate going down in flames trying to defund it, but that it goes anyway, immediately. I want as much dysfunction as possible associated with it.

Delay pushes entrenchment back in that sense...

Precisely my point. It also reduces the pain.

but the repubs have got to hit the ground running and perform like never before in the next year... selling their "vision" and you know how that always ends. sigh.

2014 is almost here. Delay ZeroCare a year (an epithet we should be using) and it won't matter in 2014. Then you are talking 2016. Delay it one year and you have entrenched it for three.

DELAY IT.

Then spend 2014 explaining to the country how we temporarily saved the country from. Communist takeover.

We will get it back at election time. Then in 2015 kill it and impeach Obama at the same time.
