My email from Congressman Carter (Texas)

Regular Order- Imagine that!

WASHINGTON D.C. - Congressman John Carter (R-TX31) is releasing the following statement regarding the government shutdown.

“Today, the Federal Government has regrettably shut its doors and turned off its lights; this is a clear result of President Obama, his administration and the Senate’s unfortunate failure to come to the table with the House and listen to the American people.

For years, I have pushed for the timely passage of our Nation’s annual appropriations bills through the House and Senate. With the exception of recent history, every year since 1789 Congress has passed regular appropriations bills to keep the government funded. Passing all annual appropriations bills is called being in “regular order.

Regular order is our friend, especially in this fight to delay Obamacare, a system that is undeniably flawed and not even close to being ready for primetime.

Why haven’t we been using this constitutionally directed process? Maybe it’s because 58% of the members of Congress have been there less than six years. It’s a foreign concept to these new members but a historic moment to get back to our constitutional duty. We must return to this process that will bring the Senate to the table after three rejected solutions.

I stand ready with my colleagues in Washington to fix this budgetary mess. I will not stand idly by and allow President Obama and Harry Reid to shut this government down at the foot of Obamacare and in defense of Democrats’ out of control spending.”

I used to live in Congressman Carter's district in Central Texas. The above is what I got in an email from his office regarding the shutdown. I find it odd that he seems to lay blame partially on the members of Congress who have been there less than six years and says it's a "foreign concept" to the "new members" that we must have "Regular Order" as he calls it. I guess "Regular Order" is giving in to the opposition.

Sounds to me like he’s talking about those that don’t help pass a budget and that working with a budget is foreign to them.

....I think he’s trying to sound conservative for reelection while being tied to leadership weasel cowering and bringing his own gang of eight secret negotiators together to do amnesty behind closed doors... which is hopefully going to get him primaried.
He swore he was retiring two terms ago and now he is Stroming his seat.

ymmv

Sounds to me that he has a personal problem with a call for term limits.

It’s my impression that the only ones doing anything are the freshman senators who are trying to get their own older members as well as the housewives who refuse to use the constitution and represent their voters and stand up to the democrats who are disrespecting the process

Term limits are the answer Congressman. It’s time to get back to having people there who actually represent the people, not a party, a gang of 8, or perpetuating personal power.

Your position was never intended to be a career choice. But it was intended to be limited term to serve the people of your state.

Sound like a good response

Of course he would be just the person, ironically, I’d expect to not read a constituent’s response

Ah yes, term limits are the answer. The Congress Critters would spend most of their time being fitted for imperial robes, attending welcoming and departure ceremonies, planning for a life-long congressional pension and just enjoying their brief stint among the upper-class.

Meanwhile, the massive, bloated, unionized bureaucracy would continue to rule over the people without regard to the wishes of the people. Funds would be provided by continuing resolutions and debt limit hikes as usual.

Nope, unless we kill the Sixteenth Amendment and starve the beast, the beast consumes us.

I disagree as to your description of what would happen. New reps wouldn’t be afraid to defund the beast . New blood like Ted Cruz could afford to make the tough choices knowing they would be back home in two terms no matter what.

The old dogs wouldn’t be around to smother people like Cruz. JMO

I understand your point and it would be true if not for the leviathan we have created.

It is already "too big to fail" (or to succeed for that matter).
