School Tells Cop Scott Urkov Not To Wear Gun, Uniform When Picking Up Daughter

While school districts around the country, in wake of the numerous school shootings that have plagued the United States in recent years, have debated whether to have armed guards on school grounds, one school in Arizona recently told a police officer to leave his gun at home — and for that matter, his uniform as well — when he picks up his daughter.

Scott Urkov got a call from the principal of Entz Elementary School in Mesa, Arizona, after he showed up at the school in his full police uniform including his sidearm.

The cop immediately took to Facebook to express his disbelief.

"Nothing like your kids school calling and asking if I could not come to pick up my daughter in uniform cause parents were concerned when their kids came home telling them there was a man at school with a gun. Are you freaking kidding me?" he posted.

The sight of an armed man — even a fully uniformed police officer — with a handgun on the school grounds was apparently too much for some parents.

"There were some parents who were concerned about that fact that there was a fully armed officer on campus and they spoke to the principal about it," said school spokesperson Helen Hollands.

But not all parents were alarmed. Some told a local Fox TV station that an armed officer on campus was a good thing.

"Even if my kids saw that I think they'd feel more protected to see a man in uniform at their school," sais one parent, Blaine Spencer.

The school has apologized, saying that they didn’t realize that Urkov (pictured) would take the phone call as an affront and now wants to turn the misunderstanding into a “teachable moment.” Urkov has bee invited to speak at the school in his full uniform to explain to kids what police officers do.

As for Urkov himself, he told the Fox reporter that his department advised him “just to let it be,” without further comment.

Drink the cop hater kool-aid much?
I'll guess your "interactions" with the cops have been negative, and like all the inmates in Shawshank Prison, you were innocent.
Give it a rest.

Too much for stupid liberal parents who have their heads up their butts. They hate the police. They hate the military. But, when someone is kicking down the door or a terrorist is shooting his block up with an AK47, they want you there right freaking now. Stupid idiot liberals are a threat to society. THEY are the problems with this nation. Liberals, progressives, socialists, communists, Obamanuts. All the same and the REAL reason this nation is screwed up so badly.

Urkov has been invited to speak at the school in his full uniform to explain to kids what police officers do.

I would reply that I'd prefer to speak to the School Administration about what Police officers do, as the kids are likely smart enough to have figured it out.

Oh, missus principal, do I understand right? you want me to shed my uniform and my pistol before I come to pick up my daughter?
No way, missus principal. I am a peace officer. I put my life in danger every day to protect the public, including you. [thought but not said: “including your sorry liberal a$$”] When I come to your school in uniform you and the children are protected by me. Tell me, missus principal, is the real reason why you don’t want me to come because you DON’T want the kids to have respect for a cop and to feel safe around an armed cop?

But where does one find teachers nowadays?

You find college students that can't cope with the rigors of fine arts, PE or general studies curricula then change their majors to Education.

I don’t believe they have the right to ask this of the officer. I’d show up in it for spite.

What are they going to do...call the cops?

But what happens if you’re driving from point A to point B and you have a few schools you have to pass? Whatever road you choose to go around them has a school on it. So how do you move your “weapons” to where you want to take them?

If something goes wrong at the school and they call 911, will they tell the dispatcher to have the responding policemen change out of their uniforms and leave their weapons locked in their vehicles before they arrive on school grounds?

Biography

I was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but moved to California when only a few weeks old. Luckily, I did not receive the pleasure of shoveling snow and walking to school in multiple layers of clothing. I was raised in sunny Mission Viejo, California where the seed for my passion to become an educator was planted through my educational experiences from elementary school through high school. Upon graduation from high school I attended The University of Arizona with Elementary Education as my focus. I taught 5th grade for 3 years in Tucson upon graduating. I then moved to Phoenix to better accomplish a few of my professional and personal goals. While teaching in Chandler, I attended night school through Northern Arizona University for a few years in order to obtain a master's degree in Elementary Education. I then was accepted into Arizona State University's D.E.L.T.A. Doctoral program which focused on educational leadership. Once I earned my doctorate, and, after ten years of being in the classroom, I made the choice to pursue an educational position that would allow me to maintain my passion for teaching and learning, but in a different context; that being in the position of instructional leader.

When is it time to say that sending your child to public school is child abuse or worse?

We made decision before we procreated that if we were blessed with children that we would raise them to be adults in a home schooled environment.

Even with the financial loss from having a one income family.

Why have children if your goal in life is to ship them off for others to be responsible for your creation?

We know a few that see making new children as a pay raise and more free stuff from the government.

Then the wonder of where feral children appear from.

I would suspect that the “detached from reality” school administration is responding to the catastrophic increase of massacres at schools by uniformed policemen. It’s hard to get through a week without reading about another school shooting by uniformed policemen/women. Probably the MSM administration propagandists are not getting the word out.

No doubt.

...and then the next day the *only* armed person at the school isn’t a good guy - not even a cop allowed around. And they think it makes them safer. Unreal.
