House Speaker John Boehner denounced the political stalemate that has shut down Washington for the fourth consecutive day Friday, insisting that Congress isn't playing "some damn game."

In an animated press conference, Boehner chided both President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for what he called their refusal to negotiate over Republicans' concerns about Obamacare.

Boehner, R-Ohio, insisted the Congress would will not vote on a "clean" spending bill without conditions to end the government shutdown, and demanded spending cuts in exchange for raising the government's borrowing limit.

Blasting reports depicting the impasse as a tally of winners and losers, Boehner shouted: "This isn't some damn game!

AWWW—did he stamp his wittle foot when he said this? I bet he has their full attention now.....

If he’s finally growing some big uns, that will be a good thing. So far, I’m not convinced .

Actually, I like that answer. The public needs to know this is serious business and he considers it so.

Boehner is so stupid to accept Democrat premises and Democrat word games. The bill sent to the Senate WAS clean--it didn't have any of that dirty, disgusting Obamacare crap in it. It funded the entire government as the government currently exists, and did not fund a program that no one wants that has not yet been implemented.

If Harry wants Obamacare, he needs to clean it up first, and then send something decent to the House. Until then, he should pass the clean bill he has.

Does FR have a pool going yet on when Boehner’s going to cave in to the Democrats? Because it’s typical of him to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

The problems is ...0bama is not playing a game and if Boehner thinks this is about political gamesmanship, he is making a very grave error in leadership.

Just this morning I read about Harry Reid calling Boehner a coward.
Now harry is calling for Civility.

perhaps harry went a bit too far and Boehner’s balls are actually growing back.

I agree, Speaker Boehner’s answer is right on target.
Speaker Boehner shows more maturity than some people here on FR give him credit for. It is bad enough that you have the continuous lies by the Dems and the Press. Why should we also get criticism from our own. When you all say he needs to grow a spine, I suggest you check your own back.

What is Obama’s endgame?
Obama is on move away from a checkmate on the Republican party. If they do not raise the Debt ceiling Obama will do it, if they do they will upset their base.

Listened to the podcast of Mark Levin’s show (10/3/2013).
The part I’m referring to begins at 30 mins in.
Make sure you are listening to the 10/3/2013 show

All of the following is Levin’s take on the government shutdown.
There’s no transcript so I’m going to do the best I can.

What is Obama’s endgame?
The clue is in Obama’s repeated use of the word ‘default’ in his recent interviews.
The Dems and Obama keep repeating the story that the Repubs are crazy.
That they have a ‘gun to the head’ of the country. That they are ‘holding America hostage.’
Obama is setting up the idea that “I have no choice but to take matters into my own hands to save the country.”
His plan is to push the shutdown until mid October when the debt ceiling will be reached.
He will then deliberately mix Authorization laws with Appropriation laws. The Senate will back him.
Americans are too ignorant of the law to understand the difference and the MSM will say Obama is doing the right thing.
He will then declare that it is his Constitutional duty to see that the nations bills are paid.
He will issue an Executive Order increasing the debt limit. He has no authority to do this.
It will be a blatantly impeachable offense but the Repubs will not be able to impeach him.
The Dems will back him as a solid unit and the Power of the Purse will be transferred to the Executive branch.
The MSM will say he is a hero. The Constitution will be irreparably shredded.
The system of Checks and Balances will no longer exist.
The Constitutional Republic will be destroyed.
He will fundamentally change the United States.

Obama does not have the authority to raise the debt ceiling. If he tries some connivance to do so, impeach him. How many illegal acts usurping Congressional authority will Congress allow?

boehner wants a deal on spending cuts to increase debt limit

Whatever deal he get in spending reduction would not be better the the current governemt shut down. So keep the government shut down in place imho, indefinately

You are right Speaker Boehner, it isn’t a game.

It is about the Constitution, it is about Liberty, it is about the principles of Freedom.

Stand your ground.

The Constitutional Republic was destroyed a long time ago. Clinton was one of many doctors who kept the brain-dead patient on cardiac and respiratory support. Bush extubated the patient with TARP and other financial system bailouts. Obama is just the undertaker.
