This weekend, youll hear a lot of senators, particularly Democratic senators allied with Harry Reid, insist theyre doing everything possible to end the government shutdown.
On Friday, the Senate found time to pass a resolution Designating the week of October 7 through 13, 2013, as National Chess Week to enhance awareness and encourage students and adults to engage in a game known to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Huh. I thought he needed a “clean CR” for this.
I hope the Cowboy Poetry Festival will be funded again!
and here I was calling them 24/7 to pass the “National Tic Tac Toe Awareness Week”..
If we didn’t have a federal government we would have had to muddle through without a National Chess Week.
Harry doesn’t care about kids with cancer but national chess week is A-OK.
Hmmm, promotes critical thinking and problem solving. Harry’s game must be checkers and Obama told Harry to ‘king me’!
I only the 1st five words, then my heart sank. LOL
I got excited for a minute when I read “Harry Reid passed”.
guess this proves democrats don’t play chess.
they jump right on passing things they have no comprehension of
The game does contain a King.
Harry did this knowing that his Las Vegas Union voters would think it is about the “Chess Club.”
That topless place just off the strip.
Worthless as teats on a bull.
or honor to zer0’s hero putin
Better be careful there, Harry; you're playing with fire. Anybody with critical thinking and problem-solving skills knows your party is leading the country at breakneck speed to insolvency, total societal collapse, tyranny, and dystopia.
Lucky for you that K-12 and the Academy has been taken over by radical communists and useful idiots over the past 60 years which destroyed honest critical thinking. So you can carry on with your plans to irrevocably smash Western Civilization to bits.
How would society even function if Al Gore hadn’t invented chess?
I was ready to stop right there...
1 P-K4 ... P-KN4

3 Q-KR5 mate
Scholar's Mate is usually presented as a fujk-up by the White player, but in the current state of the goobermint, I think we can easily agree that, this time, it's a fujk-up by the Kenyan player.
My apologies. What I presented was the Kenyan version of Fool’s Mate, not Scholar’s Mate. Which was what was intended, Dirty Harry and Zero-Zero So-to-ro being fools...and most certainly not scholars.
Obama's sorry, the park is shut down and nobody is allowed to play!
he won’t pass even a budget for the past 4 years
but he can do this?
Man! That makes our stuff look SMALL!
I’m waiting for Reed to pass on.
That reminds me of a great post I saved a while back when someone complained about Ohio voting on a state cookie:
Every minute the state legislature is spending on the state cookie is a minute they can’t do something elee. With that in mind, Ohio needs a state cookie, biscuit, cracker, low-fat cracker, candy bar, mint, breath mint, mint with a hole in the center, cheese, cheese with holes in it, really hard cheese that’s easy to grate, ....
(Sorry I don’t have the author. Maybe Lazamataz?)
“The game does contain a King.”
Yes and the game is over when the King is trapped in a position from which he cannot escape. Interestingly the strongest protecter the King has is the Queen and if the Queen is captured by the other side her King is almost certainly doomed to defeat...hmmm. Normally the most numerous and relatively insignificant pieces which are called “pawns” are the first to be sacrificed to protect the more important pieces. Any and all other than the King himself are apt to be sacrificed to protect the King but in the end one King or the other will fall and even the winning King will lose many of his troops in the process of defending his kingdom. No wonder the game has been around so long, it’s life reduced to a board game.
The Fool’s Mate would have been more appropriate.
