Sowell: Inarticulate Republicans
Creators Syndicate ^ | October 8, 2013 | Thomas Sowell

If the continued existence of mathematics depended on the ability of the Republicans to defend the proposition that two plus two equals four, that would probably mean the end of mathematics and of all the things that require mathematics.

Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner, epitomized what has been wrong with the Republicans for decades when he emerged from a White House meeting last Wednesday, went over to the assembled microphones, briefly expressed his disgust with the Democrats' intransigence and walked on away.

We are in the midst of a national crisis, immediately affecting millions of Americans and potentially affecting the kind of country this will become if ObamaCare goes into effect — and yet, with multiple television network cameras focused on Speaker Boehner as he emerged from the White House, he couldn't be bothered to prepare a statement that would help clarify a confused situation, full of fallacies and lies.

Boehner was not unique in having a blind spot when it comes to recognizing the importance of articulation and the need to put some serious time and effort into presenting your case in a way that people outside the Beltway would understand. On the contrary, he has been all too typical of Republican leaders in recent decades.

When the government was shut down during the Clinton administration, Republican leaders who went on television to tell their side of the story talked about "OMB numbers" versus "CBO numbers" — as if most people beyond the Beltway knew what these abbreviations meant or why the statistics in question were relevant to the shutdown. Why talk to them in Beltway-speak?

When Speaker Boehner today goes around talking about the "CR," that is just more of the same thinking — or lack of thinking. Policy wonks inside the Beltway know...

“Let’s say they are like the math-challenged people who buy lottery tickets. Liberals are logic-challenged, and tend to go into fields where opinion and emotion hold sway, like sociology and humanities. There is certainly a lot of confused thinking out there masquerading as expertise.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Can’t argue with that. I do know one or two fairly sane people who buy lottery tickets but it is a routine of ONE ticket per week, never more, and is considered a small entertainment expense, worth it for the vanishingly small chance that they may EVER hit it big, expense wise it is like playing penny poker. I think I have bought a total of three lottery tickets in my entire life and not one within the past ten years. I did talk on the phone last night with someone who was my coworker over thirty years ago and he mentioned that he actually is personally acquainted with not one but two huge winners, huge like 140 million and 260 million. It sounds almost impossible but I believe him because I do know that this man who is past eighty survived seven heart attacks in his forties which is even more amazing than knowing two lottery winners. After all those heart attacks he married a coworker who was at least ten years younger than he was and has outlived her. He now lives as an elderly widower in Asheville, NC. Neither of the lottery winners has offered to buy him so much as a new recliner.

Loved this line:

“Democrats, by contrast, are all talk. They could sell refrigerators to Eskimos before Republicans could sell them blankets.”

I have come to the sad & sickening conclusion that the Establishment Republicans in Congress (which is about 99% of them) know exactly what they are doing. That’s why a lot of them are drunks. They know what they are doing is wrong — they are complicit with destroying America while looking like they are trying to stop the Train Wreck in the White House.

If Soetoro falls on the sword and defaults for the first time ever, this will be with the full knowledge & collaboration with Boehner and Mitchell. The next chapter of the NWO Game Plan may then proceed as designed with countries bailing on the US Petro dollar — just want Soeotoro has wanted from the beginning. Nasty won’t begin to describe life after that point.

Thank you for the ping and post, Jaz.

I agree with Dr. Sowell. I stinkin’ HATE acronyms.

Except B.O. He stinks, so B.O. is appropriate in that one instance.
