ObamaCare rates trigger more sticker shock
Fox News ^ | October 12, 2013 | Jim Angle

Video at link.

Andy Mangione, who lives in Louisville, Ky. with his wife Amy and their two boys, is doing the same thing millions of people are doing --trying to figure out how much his insurance will cost under ObamaCare.

Before the exchanges opened, his insurance company said his rates would soar. But now that there are subsidies, he's been trying for days to find out how much he would get.

"To logically compare plans, I've been calling them every day since October 1st," says Mangione, "several times a day on some occasions. Sometimes enduring 45, 50 minute holds, half an hour holds."

Although Kentucky officials were unable to give him a firm number on his subsidy because of repeated ITproblems, they did refer him to a Kaiser Family Foundation site, which suggests his subsidy will be $414 a month -- on a premium of $868.

"What I'm concerned about is our doctor visits, our emergency room visits, and what I'm paying in my premium," says Mangione.

The problem is the plan closest to what he has now will mean a 24 percent increase over his current payment-- after subsidies.

And his co-pay for emergency room visits almost tripled -- from $125 to $350 -- an important factor for a family with two young boys.

The bottom line is people who couldn’t afford health insurance in the first place are still not going to be able to afford it - only this time the government has an excuse to make them even more poor by stealing whatever pennies they have left. Welcome to communism 101.

We should catalog all of the articles where Freepers predicted what a mess Obamacare would be. We just might be able to win back some voters by saying “we told you so”, and then showing them.

Yep, blatant lies by 0bummer and the Rats to shove this down everyone’s throats and now they ignore the truth that’s surfacing.

Commies would be proud and in fact those inside our government are, and there are many.

Remember in the 1980s if you had a car accident they would raise your rates almost double? I remember paying close to $5000 one year because I had two accidents.

Then they put car insurance on the free market.

That’s why you constantly get 900000 Geico, Prudential, Allstate ads a day now and why if you have an accident they pretty much do not do anything.

WHY?

THE FREE MARKET...In other words ...COMPETITION!

But the Treason party doesn’t want that for health insurance.

WHY?

Because this is not about health insurance. This is about...

CONTROL

The plans with low premiums have the high deductibles. Have to pay more for those gold level plans to get the more reasonable deductibles like $500, at least from some of the online estimates I’ve seen so far (by putting in various income levels).

Tax credits for premiums and co-pays will help, but only low-income people will qualify for both credits. People will really need both credits to have something considered AFFORDABLE.

I’ve got “Tricare Prime” as a retiree. For both me and my wife it’s about $550 a year. We’ve got a $12.00 deductable.

I’m waiting to see what the damage is going to be next year...

For a lot of Obama voters though, $1 is sticker shock. They thought it was going to be free.

You’re exactly right, even many of the working middle class 0bama voters.

obammacare people need to realize that they will have a higher co-pay and a higher deductible. The premium increase is just the tip of the iceberg.

I haven't heard from my employer or insurance company about what changes are coming with HusseinCare ... this years' policy hasn't changed YET.

Nevertheless, I was in the store yesterday to pick up my 90 day refill (usual co-pay $13), the lady says "$144.xx please.... My first thought was Oh $#it! Did my benefits change already? I asked the clerk to double check, she said "oh I'm sorry, we didn't process your insurance ... a few taps on the register and the amount was $13.

Point is, I said to her "yeah, well, next year when this Obamacare kicks in, it might be $144 ... and she replied:

YEAH, WE ALL MADE A BIG MISTAKE VOTING THIS IN....

"They're climbing trees, they're falling out of trees. They're running around falling off their bike, they're very active. They're not unlike any other 8 and 10 year old boys," their dad says.

Well, maybe you shouldn't let them climb trees or ride their bikes recklessly.

Sheesh. We raised two active boys and not once did either of them require a visit to the emergency room. We warned them that there were boundaries and if they exceeded them, privileges were revoked. Accidents can happen, even in the best of circumstances, but parents have to assume some responsibility and keep their kids under control.

Well said. If you cannot afford the government health insurance, that justifies the government in demanding by penalty of law the payment of a fee.

The fee in 2014 is 1% of your yearly income or $95 per person for the year, whichever is higher. The fee increases every year. In 2016 it is 2.5% of income or $695 per person, whichever is higher.

In 2014 the fee for uninsured children is $47.50 per child. The most a family would have to pay in 2014 is $285.

It’s important to remember that someone who pays the fee won’t get any health insurance coverage. They still will be responsible for 100% of the cost of their medical care.

I wonder what his deductible is going to be. When I looked at the silver and bronze plans the emergency room care had a flat fee, but it was after the deductible had been met

The kicker is that the deductible, even on the silver plan, was $2500 per individual/$5000 per family. On the bronze plan the deductibles and max out of pocket were the same $5200/$10,400. Better not get sick a lot. The price will kill you.

People will not have to pay a penalty if the cost of insurance exceeds 8% of their income. They can receive an exemption.
